Absolutely not. Just more individualistic and believe I can do better on my own merit than union scale and seniority.
Unions are there to protect low skill workers.

in any type of group you are going to have a small percentage that make it harder for the group to accomplish its objective, but I have to disagree with you on this Rog

The pilots have a union, correct? Does it cover just the pilots or mechanics, handlers and others too? Not a gotcha question I am genuinely curious.

pilots have a union, flight attendants have a union, mechanics do too but are severely hamstrung because they also represent the baggage handlers and aircraft cleaners which comprise the majority of their membership

this is one of the recurring TD topics where there's almost no middle ground

I think it comes down to whether or not your worldview skews individualist and you rely on yourself and your own wits or collectivist and you rely on the wits of the group.
I've seen an OT math thread. I'll stick with individualist.

Unions negotiate for the masses. If you're below average, great. If you're average, no biggie. If you're above average, you're dragged down to their level.

These stupid striking millennials are gonna go back to work fast when they realize they can’t go to the doctor every day for free anymore

No. I prefer private schools. Less SJW indoctrination.
Unions dominate public education and government. Both of which are incredibly corrupt and inefficient. The correlation is obvious.

Tell us what the UAW president makes for an annual salary. When was the last time a UAW president was raided by the FBI and IRS?

When was the last time you guys had a strike? I am wondering if skill level needed to do a job has any correlation to frequency of strikes? For example, pilot vs. cleaner or machinist vs. assembly line worker.

we went on strike for 7 minutes in 97

haven't seen that in the US but in Europe they'll strike if you look at them wrong

So, y'all went on strike during your pre-flight?

I guess what I am getting at is do the unionized companies understand the value of its highly skilled workers and treat them fairly? Meanwhile, it also recognizes that putting a screw in a hole and turning a screwdriver doesn't warrant $63/hour. I am done arguing as my position is clear on the UAW. I am just trying to understand the thought process behind it all.

That's what I thought the deal was with you guys and maybe railroads, if I remember right. Strike actions by employees of industries that can bring the country to its knees through a strike is illegal except in very narrow circumstances, so the president steps in and orders the strike to end or else.
The air traffic controllers union found out what happens when you strike and run afoul of the law and the legal demands of the government.
Hint: It doesn't exist anymore because Reagan fired them all and broke the union's back, leading to its decertification even though they publicly backed Reagan against Carter in the 1980 election. Interesting trivia: Who was the only U.S. president to serve as head of a labor union?

it was a staged strike at midnight at the end of a cooling off period, we were at a huge satellite teleconference, and when it was announced(even though we had a pretty good idea that Clinton was going to intervene,) it wasn't a really good feeling, was very similar to when we were tapped on the shoulder and told "guess what, we have this little thing over here called Desert Storm and we're going to need your services for a bit"
