This entire story is strange, but the life insurance part is really strange.
So, she got the money from the life insurance policy, bought a house and has to stay single to keep it? I'd ask to see where that is in writing.

I’m a woman, and no way on earth would I even consider getting engaged to someone I’ve known less than a year/year and a half much less married. I also wouldn’t have gotten involved in a new relationship as quickly as she did.
