It's an evolutionary trait to cope with stress and worry, mostly seen in females.

Start paying attention when your woman is particularly stressed, you'll notice she starts gathering things to keep around the places she typically spends time. Mine likes to keep random items like hair brushes, lotion, clothes, etc. on the foot of the bed and her night stand when she's feeling particularly anxious.

It's actually pretty comical when you realize what's happening
