He wasn't super good, but he wasn't really bad either. Just disappointing really.
So I can't get him what's on his list but I don't wanna get coal either. Ideas?

Just be like me, and not give any gifts to anybody.

I need to know how he was disappointing to give proper advice

He's just kinda whatever, not really smart, not a great athlete. Just kinda blah.
And there's like a three in ten chance he might be gay. How young is too early to tell?

get him a PS4. Keep it in your room and don't let him play it.

Take him to go pick out and buy presents, then make him donate them to poor kids, but don't tell him that until Christmas morning. That can be his surprise.

Get him a couple girl toys and gauge his reaction. 2 birds, 1 stone

Put a Bible in an Xbox one box. That way he learns the valuable lesson of disappointment, and he gets to learn about his Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Winner thus far. Is there a way to sprinkle in guilt somehow?

Self defense book.
After he stabs you to death in your sleep, he's going to need to know how not to get fricked in jail.

I thought that was the whole point of the Bible.
Perhaps you could cry when you look at his sad face when he opens it. Tell him that Bible was the last gift your grandfather gave you before he died from masturbating too much. That will also toss in some fear.

Wow, you're really on top of this parenting bullshite. How many of the little frickers have you raised?

I have one practice kid. The next one comes next month, so I'm hoping to do better this time.

Gifts are what is wrong with Christmas. You should only celebrate our lord and savior, Jesus Christ

Don't tell him Jerry Sandusky has been sentenced. Let him read some of the transcripts from the victims and tell him if he doesn't wise up, you'll be sending him to football camp at "Camp Sandusky".

Sounds like he has low self esteem and lacks confidence. Those are usually inherited.
Think how you can break the cycle and boost his self worth. Cool clothes are a good start.
Try stuff like this playground classic for the little tyke:
