Shits too expensive these days and simply not worth paying over $100 per month to watch 7 or 8 channels - throw in that I work at 3am during the week and I never get to watch any primetime sports and never seem to be able to not know the results by the time I get home to watch DVR. For those of you who have ditched tv service, what are your options? I know to get an antenna for local stuff in BR to cover major sports stuff like NFL on sunday, but what online stuff would you recommend? I have Netflix...

TIA

I just put an HDTV antenna in my attic this weekend and you get a bunch of channels other than the local ones. I put it up as a back up.

I have thought about doing this in the past as well...trouble is, the first time I want to watch a football game and I know that it is on a channel that I don't get, I will blow a gasket.....

That said, you can get a hell of a lot of channels over the air in get Baton Rouge area....

It's got some good info.

I did this for about a year and a half. Bought an apple TV, subscribed to netflix and hulu, and that was everything I needed. I bought rabbit ears to get local channels (for major sports) and the appletv has the watchespn app so I bummed off my parents log in. The only thing that I missed was mindless channel surfing when I was killing time, but I always had every game I needed and all my shows on either netflix or hulu.

Got cable again when Mrs. Gar moved in.

CBS, NBC, FOX for Sunday NFL
ESPN3 for pretty much everything else.

How would you get ESPN3 if you get rid of your ESPN subscription?

I don't have cable. Although, I do have Netflix, Hulu, HBOGO, and Watch ESPN. Much better than cable. The only downfall is picking something to watch. Channel surfing is a underappreciated luxury.

Antenna will get you all of the NFL with the exception of ESPN Monday Night Football and the second half of the season of Thursday Night Football (first 8 weeks are simulcast on CBS+NFL Network; second 8 weeks are NFL Network exclusive).

SlingTV base package ($20) will get you ESPN Monday Night Football and a majority of NCAA on ESPN games. SlingTV Sports package ($5) gets you all of the rest of NCAA on ESPN games and SEC Network games.

Between the antenna and SlingTV, this past season I have been able to watch every football game I wanted to. The only thing I can't watch are obscure Big Ten games and shite like that. You will certainly get to see all of the SEC games.

Sling didn't work for me. For people like me who like to flip around different games it's not very good. Clunky and froze up a lot. I always get a cable box just for football season.

Amazon Prime is good to buy and the free shipping makes it worthwhile. It has a lot of the same thins as Netflix.

I have an amazon fire TV with slingtv with the sports package. That gives you a login credentials for watchespn which includes espn3 and the Sec+ channel for watching women's volleyball. Then I have Kodi installed on the firetv which lets me watch any sporting event in the world as well as any TV show or movie on demand. There is a thread started today on the tech board describing Kodi and a stickied thread on cord cutting that includes Kodi info.

Were you using the SlingTV app or the WatchESPN app? It works much better if you're using WatchESPN.
