Is this the beginning of reparations?

Article says they established a commission which traced genealogy records to identify the descendants. A bunch of them are in LA. They don't specify the preference though. Generally that means if you make the minimum quals you jump ahead of everyone regardless of their scores and other qualifications.

In an effort to acknowledge its ties to slavery, Georgetown University will offer the descendants of nearly 300 slaves preferential treatment in its admissions process.
In 1838, the school sold 272 slaves who were working on plantations in southern Maryland to pay down its debts. Now, the school said it will give the descendants of those slaves "the same consideration we give members of the Georgetown community" when they apply.
"I believe the most appropriate ways for us to redress the participation of our predecessors in the institution of slavery is to address the manifestations of the legacy of slavery in our time," Georgetown President John DeGioia wrote in a letter to students and faculty Thursday.

Along with the admissions treatment, the school will create a memorial to honor the 272 enslaved people and also rename two buildings that were named after the presidents who facilitated the 1838 sale.

I thought they'd already been doing that for years.

I'm not sure what this means.
This is an interesting move though. Wonder how they prove which are direct descendants of the slaves they sold?

So many people who despise SJWs are going to be triggered in this thread.

So, they're going to specifically discriminate against the Obama children?

I read it as they'll be treated the same way legacies or the children of staff are probably treated in the application process.

You have to be fricking kidding me.
frick, if I go back far enough in my lineage I had poor German and British ancestors that were indentured servants. In Maryland ironically. Time to start hollering for some reparations.

People who make fun of SJWs for getting upset at the most trivial things are now going to be upset at a trivial thing.

Not the same as slaves, and unless their contracts were with Georgetown, it's not exactly a comparable situation.

I do not see an issue with their actions. This is much more appropriate than every Tyrone, Daryius, and Heronjello getting benefits from every Tom, Dick, and Harry.

I'm not certain, but I understand it to mean they'll be treated like the children of alumni and such. Seems reasonable enough to me.

Precisely. Treating the descendants of slaves sold by the university as family isn't the beginning of reparations.

And if it is this, it's certainly nothing to be triggered by, it's just whatever.
