My squad leader in 101st told me a pretty funny story about the invasion of Iraq. He was a private in 1st Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment during the invasion. His company was attached to an ODA Team. They were one of the first units to be in Iraq and didn't fire a single shot. there wasn't even really a battle just a few skirmishes between 1st Armored Division Tanks and Iraqi Tanks, most of the Iraq Army just surrendered overnight.
the media and Bush admin made that invasion sound so dramatic. The real fighting started when jihadists started flooding into iraq from all over.

Bush was right to invade Iraq and kill Saddam. We had to get rid of the monster we had enabled in order to counter the Ayatollah’s.
Who still thinks like this in 2021? I can't afford these adventures anymore.
We got a bee sting 20 years ago. That doesn't mean we need to go around looking for beehives to poke.

The hubris of nation building is where he went wrong. We have failed miserably at that. Once we killed Saddam, we should have found another, more compliant, version, installed him and left.
I associate that failure more with Afghanistan. Iraq seems to have worked out OK, when judged by the standards appropriate for imperial misadventures in the Near East.

Idiotic. Iran is far more dangerous now than they were then.

Bunch of unhappy miserable dumbasses in here.
Who gives a shite if you like Bush or not, the point of the thread was about his pitch, and if you weren’t proud of our leader at that moment, then go frick yourself.

This mother fricker compared the larpers on 1/6 to the people who highjacked airliners and flew them into buildings full of people today. I'm done with him.

This is pretty much how I feel. He wasn't a great President, no one thinks he was.
But for a short time, America needed someone to stand tall for our country, and he did. And in front of millions of people, he went out to the mound in a bullet proof vest, gave a thumbs up to the cheering crowds, and threw a strike. It was pretty amazing to watch.
