The wind today is what really got all of this to get so out of control. Many areas in the SE today had strong gradient winds. That really helped to spread the fires up there, and spread relatively quickly.

That plus a long late summer drought made for the perfect storm up there today.

Tennessee EMA is reporting 30 structures on fire in Gatlinburg, including a 16 story hotel (doesn't specify which hotel).

Yep, exactly. The drought has allowed these fires to spark up easily, and the wind today was able to spread them easily.

I was thinking Park Vista too based on videos I have seen of fire right outside of it. There are guests that are stuck in there.

Serious prayers for these people. God, please don't let anyone die. Imagine being on vacation with your family and this happening..
