You don't really have an option to fuel your vehicle.

I can assure you a great many people have been doing exactly that for the last year. And if they can't reduce their mileage, they reduce spending elsewhere. You are incredibly naive.

We fill up once a month at most. If I'm in a situation where I need to drive to work every day my top priority is moving close enough to the workplace that I can either walk or ride my bike.

I can tell you don't have kids

What if your work is in a crappy area or school district?

Yes.

Thank you.

fricking exactly. I don't have kids because I don't want to be in a position where I'm forced to pay $4 a gallon to drive to some shitty soccer field and bitch about all the things everyone on the OT seems to bitch about that go along with that. I have designed my life to not worry about the price of fuel, at least in the day to day.

Again, I very much do grasp that. But even with my high rent in my safe area where the schools are good and I'm not worried about getting carjacked when I go to the gas station, with the way some of the people on here waste their money, I'd venture to say my savings rate is more than the people bitching about spending $4 a gallon on gasoline.

$2.85 here in nola. But that’s a shite hole city according to everyone here.

Liar, and yes, Nola is indeed a shithole.

There area couple of janky stations in the East that have it for $3.06, but no one is selling for less than $3 in Nola.

Costco is at $3.20 reg and $3.59 prem last night. Not sure about this morning.

I could see me riding my bike down Airline Highway in slacks and button down shirt in 105 heat index weather or pouring down rain

There are solutions if it's a priority.

Everything is a choice.

Why not?

Because the majority of geographies do not have enough housing around commercial or industrial opportunities for pedestrian or bicycle commuting.

Even most major cities don’t have that.

Yea, spend more money to live closer to work to avoid spending more money on gas. Sure hope you're better at your fancy corporate job than you are at posting here.

My point is that there is no reason someone can't design their life around not needing a vehicle for more than than an occasional trip. Not wanting to is a completely different story, but that is where I can't be all that sympathetic when gas goes up. IMO, gas prices should be something in the periphery.

You are advocating people uproot their lives, move homes (assuming they can do what you're saying), etc. all to make up for shite policy from our President* and leaders?

Yeah, you're the one who isn't in touch with reality. In no case should someone have to move homes to combat the consequences of a retard in the White House.

A vehicle is a requirement for most of the US population outside of those that live downtown in a major metro. There are only a handful of cities that are walkable in this country and that lifestyle also doesn't offer a good quality of life for a family unless you are filthy rich.

Slow down there, Jim. I'm not advocating anything. People have their reasons for doing what they do.

I'm stating that I don't have sympathy for people complaining about gas prices when they've chosen a lifestyle that seems to be dependent on a commodity that rises and falls on the back of complex geopolitical scenarios.

I'm stating my opinion, just like everyone else here. It just isn't very popular on a Louisiana message board where many of the posters live and die with the O&G industry and are citizens in a state with infrastructure so poor they can't imagine that elsewhere in the country it's possible to not be dependent on your vehicle.

No, it's simply not something most Americans want to do. I'm a renter in suburbia right now in Meridian, ID. It's car central out here. My wife and I both have full-time corporate positions. It's a difference in priorities. Most people don't mind paying the gas prices. If people really really didn't want to pay 3.89 a gallon they would find ways to stop driving.

Look, I get that you're playing the role of the intelligent, childless contrarian who just "gets it" more than all of the other dummies on here, but you really need to get out of your own bubble and take a look at how our American economy works and the various jobs required to keep the machine going. Not everyone in our country can just up and move to rent some apartment close to work or simply change jobs so they don't have to drive. The USA is a lot bigger than you, your wife, and your dog.

Plus, you do realize that high gas prices and inflation affect every single segment of our supply chain? You will 100% have higher rent when your lease is up if your landlord has to pay more for repairs and/or taxes due to increased property values. YOU will eat that, not the property owner.

I mean, it isn’t possible to not be dependent on a vehicle in the HYPER MAJORITY of the country.
