His aunt died last week. Probably Trumps fault.

Last week an update from every local news station came across my phone, it ready Mike VI has cancer. I thought to myself, is this really news? Don’t get me wrong, I understand Mike is the beloved mascot of Louisiana’s flagship university, but my initial reaction was this isn’t news. Now some will oppose my editorial, but I’ve seen much debate on social media about the issue so I decided to weigh in. People love animals and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Animals have proven to be an asset to war veterans and cancer patients. They have cheered up many on sad days, and are greatly appreciated by those who own them. Yet somehow, I am always amazed at how some of our community reacts to the preservation of the life of an animal more than the lives of people who live in their community. It was reported this week that Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center will treat Mike, and absorb the cost of his treatment. When this update began to circulate, I thought to myself this must be a joke. First of all LSU athletics is loaded with money, they don’t exactly need assistance paying for the care of the tiger they keep as the mascot for the university. More importantly, I haven’t seen the same level of compassion about residents of north Baton Rouge who have a lack of access to healthcare everyday, as I have about Mike the Tiger. This is where the question of humanity is raised. How is it that we can be so concerned about the wellbeing of a tiger, yet care so little about over 100,000 people having a lack of access to adequate healthcare? Mike is being treated by some of the top doctors in our market, at a first class facility. Yet the residents of north Baton Rouge, aren’t blessed with the same benefits. We are told that asking for tax dollars to be allocated to a project in north Baton Rouge is wrong. Yet facilities like Our Lady of the Lake, receive millions upon millions of tax dollars every year to service patients. How is it that no one complains that a tiger is being given medical treatment? Yet when humans can’t afford to pay for medical care they are called leaches and derogatory names for wanting access to the same care that Mike is getting. The reality is, some of us care more about an animal than we do humans and that’s sad. Just this weekend a 4 year old boy fell into the cage of a gorilla in Ohio. As a result the animal was shot and killed in order to save the life of the little boy. People are outraged. They want the parent to have to pay for the loss of the gorilla. As the parent of a 6 year old who just recently went to the zoo, I’m amazed at the lack of compassion for human life. The gorilla was dragging a young boy around a cage. We have placed more value on the life of this animal than on the life of the little boy that was saved as a result of killing the animal. I’m sorry, but I would kill 100 animals to save my daughter. We have somehow lost our true moral compass to care for one another. Yes, we should be concerned about the wellbeing of animals, but not more than we care about humans. Residents of Baton Rouge, from every corner should want to see access to healthcare expanded in north Baton Rouge. The very same way they want to see Mike the Tiger get treatment for his cancer. Increasing care in north Baton Rouge is good for all of Baton Rouge. Do I see a problem with Mike being treated? Not really. I just think it’s backwards to preserve the life of a tiger faster than we do the life of a human and hear no one complain about the cost. Maybe if residents of Baton Rouge, were as vocal about the need to expand healthcare for residents in north Baton Rouge, people wouldn’t see the need to compare. Is there a cost involved? Certainly, but human life should matter more than the cost. Healthcare is one of those things that we shouldn’t see a need to debate about the cost. Why? I think it’s simple, people don’t ask to get sick. It happens, it’s a part of life. Many of us say we are pro-life, but only relate that to one phase of life, birth. I believe being pro-life, means we are concerned about the lives of others all our days. The problem isn’t with Mike the Tiger getting treatment. The question is, where is the same humanity concerning our human neighbors? I’ve been saying it for months, and I’ll say it again. North Baton Rouge needs a hospital. We have a chance to open an emergency room by January, this should be as important to all residents of Baton Rouge as Mike getting treatment. Let us not allow our humanity to be questioned, because our compassion extends more to an animal than to other humans. You can tell what is important to a community, by what goes viral in the community.
What's of particular interest is that Mike the Tiger just walks around all day, lays in the sun, eats and uses the bathroom. And he works as much or more than the citizens of NBR do.

If people wonder why north Baton Rouge hasn’t developed, it’s because of you and people like you Mayor Holden, who have lied about our community. Who only tell the negative stories about north Baton Rouge, and kick against progress. You lied in November and said that “developers aren’t interested in north Baton Rouge” so Councilwoman Banks and I held conference calls with businesses from out of state, and found out it was a lie. The city-parish has given the Baton Rouge Area Chamber millions of dollars to help with economic development, we just haven’t seen it spread around the parish equitably.
Yeah Kip, Gary and this councilwoman had conference calls with like businesses and stuff, so you were clearly lying. Who did he talk to? You don't need to know, but it totally happened.

Mayor Holden, you said, “come to Baton Rouge, we will give you tax incentives and encourage other businesses to work with you. No credit check and no delay.” You already did that when you gave several hundred thousand dollars of tax payer dollars to Miss USA, which is owned by Donald Trump. He has bankrupted multiple businesses, but you gave our tax dollars to him. It’s funny how your words fit your actions more than anyone else’s.

I mean what's stopping all of these interested out of state businesses from setting up shop in NBR? Sounds like Gary was talking to some serious players, so should be fairly simple.

Dude? Really? Aren't you listening? Kip is blocking it because he doesn't want NBR to prosper.

did he really think that was a good point?
What I find funny about Gary is his vocabulary, or there lack of. One of the semi "big" words that he knows is "equity." He manages to use "equity" every 3 sentences I think. He could say like "fair" or "just" or something similar, but I guess those aren't as fancy of words.

To be fair, he's just playing to his audience.

Yes if by address you mean he deleted and blocked anyone that asked him about it

Well, really it's the white people fault that NBR is a dump because Kip is a puppet of the white people and the white people clearly don't want NBR to prosper. In Gary's mind that's what it really boils down to.
What's going to be really funny is when white people start to gentrify NBR and start buying real estate and turn the dump around. Then Gary is going to really have a heart attack...and not from being fat.

As far as I can tell, he has no higher education experience, or degree.

Well formal education is a racket run by the white man, so I understand his reluctance to participate.

Well I mean that may be the catalyst, but when Gary does have a heart attack the root cause of it will be from being a fat frick.
But it really does blow my mind that they seem to truly believe we want NBR to remain shitty. " AH HA! No they cannot have a hospital for if they gain that, the black takeover will truly begin."

Right. The good people of South BR love that North BR is a crime-ridden shithole. So much that they will do anything in their power to keep it that way. Never mind that idiom about a rising tide lifting all boats.
