MONROE, La. (KNOE) - A local toddler isn’t letting cancer rattle her.
One-year-old Emma Medlin was diagnosed with a malignant neuroblastoma in her abdomen in March 2018.
She is currently receiving chemotherapy treatments to reduce the size of the tumor. When the tumor is small enough, she will undergo surgery to remove it.
Emma’s parents, Amy and Nathanael Medlin, have had to take leaves from their jobs to help with their daughter’s treatments in Memphis and Shreveport.
You can help Emma by simply buying lunch on Friday, July 20.
Emma’s Benefit Luncheon will be from 11 AM until 1 PM at Strauss Theatre. The lunch will include a pulled pork sandwich, chips, and dessert. One plate is $8.
The luncheon is hosted by Shepherd’s Pie “People Influencing Eternity” and friends of the Medlin family.
Family-friend Megan Wilkins says there's always a way to find strength during this tough time, and this luncheon is a way to unitr the community.
"This is a good turning point to show that in a world of a lot of negativity, there's a lot of good positive there too," Wilkins says. "I think as a community we just need to come together to support each other."
Cute kid, horrible situation.

Can people outside of the funroe area call in and pay for a plate to be donated or given away or just to give them the $8?

I just picked up a plate. Looks like it was a pretty good turnout. Very well organized. They have you drive thru so you don’t even have to get out of the truck!
