Freezer light is not turning on. Fridge was working as of at least three hours ago, but now all the food is defrosting/melting. Not sure what to look for specifically to be able to determine what is wrong...are there any common items it may be?

If the light isn't coming on, then it's a power source issue. Google your make and model and the symptoms and see if you can figure it out. If under warranty, call the manufacturer.

When I open it, it lights up. I hear a fan or motor spinning, but it is warming up in there...the other side of the fridge is operating fine.

Had the same issue. Check the back of the freezer (inside) to see if there is visible frost. If so, replace the defrost thermostat ($9) and or the defrost heater assembly ($60).

If you're cooking ice cream, you have worse problems than a broken freezer.

Check outlet
check fridge power control mechanism like fuses etc

If no fix - go buy ice, keep food cool

Tomorrow go guy new fridge, and document how your wife prefers that option as opposed to getting existing fridge repaired.

you should be below freezing in oxford from about midnight on...may be able to leave some stuff outside if necessary.
