Investigating the lawyers attack as a hate crime now because they didn't take his gold Rolex, wad of cash, or cell phone. They just attacked him to attack him.

I'll protest with you. I need new shoes.

You don't even have to get to the interstate. Go hang out at Canal and Rampart and tell me how that goes for you.

Well the only things that I think would stop the muggings is if everyone carried a gun
They could have made a sizable dent in crime had they moved those projects near Armstrong Park to NOLA Eat. Instead, the city spent millions of dollars renovating them. The average value of each residence is around $250k. For a fricking project.

There's this retarded idea that if the projects are clean and new, the residents will magically transform themselves into caring tenants and productive citizens. Give them a few years and they'll be rundown and disgusting. NO East is already overrun with cheap apartments so the projects would've fit in nicely there. Or...don't rebuild the projects at all.

I also bartend at the Saenger sometimes, and have parked in those large lots between Rampart and the interstate. I prefer to park down Iberville honestly. Though I have not heard of any employees being attacked walking that way.

Pepper spray might be fine if you're jogging but considering these savages are attacking in packs, might need the gun
Some defense is better than no defense. And likely better than walking down the middle of the street with a tire iron.

That's a disgusting intersection even during the day

There are some scary grown arse men on this board. Some people need to grow some balls.
I'll walk through every single one of those intersections any time of the day or night alone and not even think twice about it.
God I'm ashamed for some of you

When I worked on Bourbon after Katina I parked at the lot next to NOAC with the yellow poles all the time and never had any problems. Had a couple coworkers get mugged and shot in the DH Holmes lot on Iberville though.

They just jack their prices up too often, and even heard from valets that even with a monthly contract, during big events you have to pay extra, plus I just hate how tight that lot is.

I hated that fricking lot but it used to be $4 during the week and you couldn't beat that. My old car had yellow marks all over it.

The garage between Iberville and Canal is only $3 and there is usually enough safe foot traffic when I get out of the theatre. I worry more about walking toward Nichols and Ursuline at night from my main job.

Things like this are why I moved my family out of New Orleans. Would much prefer to raise my kids in a more wholesome environment like Bunkie.

Honestly I thank my lucky stars I was never mugged or beaten. I used to stumble out of the Alibi or Jimiani and make that walk in the wee hours and never had a problem. This seems like a more recent phenomenon. My brother still works at Kingfish and I'm worried he's gonna make the news one day.

My wife and I have been visiting the Quarter for a few days in early December for years. We were just there Sunday-Wednesday, and it felt sketchy as frick this year compared to previous years. Also, this was the first year we'd been to Frenchmen Street (some friends were spinning at a club), and we parked a block away from where this week's attack took place later. That was the last straw: I think we're done with NOLA for a while.
Also, service in the Quarter was noticeably worse than previous years. E.g., we went to Pat O's, and our crackhead waiter only charged us for one of the two drinks we ordered. So I tried to do the right thing and pointed it out, and the POS took the opportunity to try to double charge me after that. I ended up spending an hour talking to a Pat O's manager and my credit card company straightening it out. Other places we went to had similar poor service: the exception was our waiter at Deanies - he was several orders of magnitude better than everyone else we encountered in the casual restaurants we tried (Acme, River's Edge, etc.).
NOLA has great food, terrific music, gorgeous architecture, and the Christmas displays at the Quarter hotels are beautiful. But I just don't feel safe walking around with my wife there any more, so we'll look elsewhere next Christmas.

I'm a pretty big NOLAtard but I don't blame you one bit. The only way it will change is if people start hittin em where it hurts, and that's with tourism $$$.

Vietnamese guy I work with was attacked by a bunch of black teenagers in NOLA a while back. They got his phone and ran off, just before yelling racial slurs aimed at the Chinese.
Police treated him like it was all his fault.

I know it sounds lame, and I hate to keep repeating it, but you can try visiting other parts of the city from time to time. It doesn't always have to be about the tourist traps in the quarter.

It does feel a lot more dangerous than when I worked on Bourbon from '09-'11.
I think it will take more than losing tourist dollars to fix it too. I feel it will take losing large conventions, and other big events.
