I remember after Katrina paying $9 a 12pack of coke and just being happy I could drink something besides bottled water.

Some lady called into the radio station this morning and was complaining and saying it was price gouging that the downtown Hilton raised prices from $150/night to $200/night from Friday to Saturday

How rough are these planned gated communities in the first place if the crime is high enough that citizen patrol can cut crime by 80%?
I digress, this is taking it off topic.
frick the looters and the fraud cases to come later.
Gouging can go either way, goods cost more to get to a disaster area, not less.

In re. this...From a free market perspective, I agree. What I wish would happen, is that places that suddenly raise all of their prices, would sell all that they have. Then all of the folks who bore that burden would note who did it and make it KNOWN and NEVER buy from them again.
FWIW, a small mom and pop type of place is part of the community and would not 'gouge'. This is one of those unseen things about big box places that folks don't realize.

It doesn't have to be gated to have a citizen patrol.
Chateau Estates, near you, has one. No gates. My uncle has been on with them since the summer of '09.

Do you patrol in tactical gear? That would be bad arse

Absolutely agree. Gouging became a major problem in TX during ike. And the government went after those assholes

FIFY. Some possess no good so, cant bring out the worst if thats every day for them.

Absolutely not. That would blow any tactical advantage I have over people joyriding/looting.
I like to pretend I'm in on whatever I see suspicious happening, radio in for backup, then make the arrest. Tactical gear doesn't allow for that. We learned that in training.

I was in line behind a lady when checking out of there Sunday that was losing her shite on the front desk clerk about this very thing. He kept telling her that the weekend rates are standardized and set well in advance as well as having a formulating fluctuation based on occupancy and special events. She didn't want to hear any of that. She kept yelling that she was "gonna call the 1-800 number!" to complain. He kept telling her that was fine but it wouldn't help as this was the way it was done worldwide. FWIW, my rate was reserved well in advance and was the same for the two nights but was a special discount. The website had it going up for Sat before it ever started raining.

so let's say I'm looking for an address, I miss it and make the long block around to look again. You see this and deem it joyriding. Do you then run up on my truck guns drawn?
This whole concept just blows my mind.

We rarely go heel. Happens once every 6 months, if that.

100%, I would never stop for any non marked car. I may slow down and call the police to confirm it is a real pullover, but too easy to get a crown vic and a light and play cop.
