France’s Special Forces Hunt French Militants Fighting for Islamic State

The motive for the secret operation is to ensure that French nationals with allegiance to Islamic State never return home to threaten France with a terror attack, said a current and a former foreign-affairs adviser to the French government. France has been the target of several deadly attacks either inspired by Islamic State or orchestrated from the militants’ Middle East strongholds, including the November 2015 Paris strikes. French government spokesman Christophe Castaner Wednesday said, “I say to all the fighters who join (Islamic State) and who travel overseas to wage war: Waging war means taking risks. They are responsible for those risks.”

A senior Iraqi police official showed The Wall Street Journal a list of names of 27 suspected Islamic State members sought by France, accompanied by photos of five of the men. French special forces began circulating the document at the start of the Mosul offensive last year. It is updated as men are killed, the police official said. One man was identified on the list as “Badush,” and the document described him as last seen in July driving a white Kia in northern Mosul, wearing traditional Iraqi clothing. Several of the names included aliases that linked the men to France— Abu Ismael al-Fransi and Abu Souleyman al-Fransi —or to Belgium, where some of the Paris attackers were from. Belgium’s Defense Ministry declined to comment.
quote:
“They are dealing with them here, because they don’t want to deal with them at home,” said a senior Iraqi counterterrorism officer directly involved in coordinating with the French special forces. “It’s their duty. It’s common sense. The most lethal attacks overseas were in France.” Iraqi government officials said their military doesn’t participate in systematic extrajudicial killing of Islamic State fighters, and any such cases would be investigated for possible prosecution.

The world view some people have is truly astounding. It's like you believe that France is a person that has spited you and now deserves everything it gets. "France" didn't call "America" racist.
Meanwhile if this was ya boy, America, you'd be all over his jock like white on rice.
Countries are made of people, not caricatures of people. People in Paris died and I'm all behind them if they want to take the fight to the enemy's land.

I guess you could read it that way, but that's not what I meant. More like we told everyone there were bad people hiding in all those immigrants being let in to European countties. They said whatever and let them in anyway. So, yes they made their bed.
Its to late to be looking for them in Iraq.
They need to take some of those special forces and put them right back into france and start flushing out the rats.

quote:In some ways I agree. Mostly this war will be won with intelligence intercepts. The only negative is that innocent people get caught in the middle when the government starts looking internally.

I dare say that the situation was a little more complicated as in there being tens of thousands of people being persecuted and needing a place to go.

It's never too late to put up a fight.

Smh. Military action in a democratic society is EXACTLY what we are fighting against. You fall into a trap of becoming more like your enemy in order to defeat them. And defeating them is a lot tougher than just shooting them. It's an idea we are fighting against.

I'm pretty sure France's post 9/11 terrorism death tool is less than 100
Whereas the US has lost almost 4,000 citizens to terrorism in 9/11 and post 9/11 attacks
For every Charlie Hebdo and French truck/Street massacre
We have: Santa Monica, Orlando and Boston

We have to realize that there is a benifit to hunting these ex patriots in Iraq. There's no need for due process in a war zone. Shoot to kill and let Aalah sort them out. frick a trial.

Actually I'd rather live in America right now. I think I feel safer in America now than I would living in France. Idk why, but it's true.

Smart, have a summary tribunal then put them in prison in a former french colony or shoot them in the head.

I'm of the opinion that you capture them and try to get as much information out of them as possible. Then again, most of the terror plots aren't being planned in places like Syria,Iraq or Libya. So I kind of get what you are saying with the "shoot on sight" mindset.
