In ATL I see the story about the Howell Mill store getting on fire, and walmart deciding not to rebuild it.

How the hell does WalMart stores in a major metropolitan area not make a profit and lose money?

Walmart can turn 1-2 locations into distribution centers that focus on online orders. Save money by selling off properties and loss prevention will be down with inability for theft.

Three of the four Walmarts that closed are neighborhood markets. These specifically sell groceries so they operate on smaller profit margins. An average Neighborhood Market store does from 18-20 mil. in sales yearly while allowing up to a 1% loss before it's considered a high shrink store. I guarantee you they were operating deeply in the red for quite a while before they made the decision.

WalMart has lived as the major discount department store in the US about as long as any of them have...if they hadn't switched to the grocery/department store model they were probably on the road to Kmart, Zayres, WT Grant type insignificance and ultimately disappear completely. I haven't talked to anyone in 20 years that didn't despise going into a WalMart...most still do because of price but their business model ain't great in the age of Amazon...I wouldn't be surprised if more and more didn't close.

Need to tear down and rebuild with design that greatly prevents theft. Multiple doors and hallways for exit that can be locked on both sides to hold in a thief until police arrive.

Only to be released.

Whoever came up with lopping off hands had it right.

My last seven days purchases at the local Walmart included.

1 bag of radishes
1 head of iceberg lettuce
1 pack of carrot sticks
4 baking potatoes
2 six packs of diet Dr. Pepper
2 six packs of caffein free diet cokes
1 48 count pack of Wally's bottled water
4 packages of Byers Carbsmart ice cream bars
1 big container of kitty litter
1 multi-roll pack of Cottonelle toilet paper
4 cans of cream of soup
4 bags of sugar free peppermint life savers
2 big bags of Russel Stover assorted sugar free chocolate candies

As you can see, I did my part to keep this American treasure going.

All of the liberal democrat run cities are going the way of Detroit.

Some just faster than others.

North Baton Rouge had been trying, for years, to get a major grocery store chain to open & finally one did. It stayed open approximately 6-7 years before it closed. Given reason was rampant theft & as well, safety concerns by the employees & vendors. Employee turnover rate was extremely high due to safety concerns.

If Wal Mark can't make money. What makes you think Costco can? More to steal.

If this keeps up, we will see stores reverting to the old Service Merchandise model, but with an app.

That's called Amazon.

This is what happens when you import the dregs of the third world. They lived in shite there and do the same here. It's not the imports doing this. Nice try though.

not sure if it applies in this case, but at least in the past there was a fair bit of anti-walmart sentiment up in that area of the country due to the fact that they were non-union.

I can assure you that this doesn’t apply.

Virtual stores will be everywhere in 10 years. No more walking in and shopping. Pick out your purchases on a kiosk and when you pay you’ll get them delivered to you outside.

Walmarts sales for 2022 $567.76 Billion
Walmarts minimum projected sales for:
2023-$590.47 Billion
2024-$614.08 Billion
2025-$638.64 Billion
2026-$664.18 Billion
2027-$696.33 Billion
These are low end estimates. Actually many Industry analysts would not be surprised if they were at or above
3/4 of a Trillion in sales prior to 2028.
So their business model ain't great

"Walmart tried opening smaller stores, known as neighborhood markets, that serve mostly groceries — but these lower profit margins than other merchandise like electronics or clothing. Walmart is closing neighborhood markets around the country, and three of the four stores closing in Chicago fall into that category."
