Found out my dog has a primary lung tumor. Anyone have any experience with this?

Took my 12 year old lab to the vet for a few health maintenance requirements and the doc decided to order some xrays after I told her about a non-productive cough she had been having for a few months.

They found a mass growing in her right lung unfortunately and now I have an appointment with a vet oncologist Wednesday at medvet in Metairie. I'm not expecting great news as far as prognosis goes.

Just wondering if anyone has gone through this and can offer some advice based on your experience. Things you wish you would have done or would not have done?

My primary goal is to make sure she suffers as little as possible, I won't selfishly put her through treatment if it does more harm than good. If it is her time, she's getting all the god damn table scraps she wants from here on out

Don’t spend 20k trying to save something that has probably already outlived its lifespan

No but just wanted to say I'm so sorry. It's not easy --- pets are really family members.

Mine died of cancer in May. 14 yo. She went quick. One night started hacking up shite and couldn't breathe. Died in the monkey grass. Buried her on the farm.

Make her as happy as possible for as long as possible but it's always been my belief that you know her better than anyone. 12 years is a long time. I'd hate to put her through a tough fight for what? A extra year maybe? Sorry bro.

Don't wait too long, you'll regret it. Letting them go as pain free as possible and with dignity is the best gift you can give them.

What are the options the vet gave? Can they cut it out to save him?

Suffering can stop tonight.

We won’t know options until after talking with the oncologist. Based on my own research, definitive treatment is surgical removal of the tumor with chemo being reserved for unresectable tumors or tumors with mets. Stats seem to indicate general life expectancy of somewhere between 235-900 days.

Comfort and happiness are my primary concerns. It seems the surgery can be done laparoscopically and dogs are back to normal routine in about 10-14 days. Still don’t know if I want to put her through all that.

Tough decisions ahead it seems

Our dog was diagnosed with Lymphoma and chemo basically only said it would extend his life 6-9 months. We would have to drive an hour plus once a week which wasn't an option. We chose the steroids which kept him comfortable for a few months.

My sisters dog had stomach cancer and they were able to cut it out and do chemo.

I hope it works out for you and your pup.
