Probably a lot of people. The same people who don't take themselves too seriously.
I don't think I take myself too seriously (maybe I do who knows). Just sounds goofy to me.

The ones that don't understand when some random person in New York gets offended when a group in New Mexico celebrates "black American" day and someone wears a basketball jersey.
I think a better analogy would be how black people would feel about a group of black people celebrating ghetto day. It's not necessarily offensive but it just sounds ridiculous to me.

yeah that's kinda what i was driving at. the same week they are going to wear pj's to school and dress up exactly like a friend for twin day.

So the issue is that it is a meme? Are you seeing how ridiculous that is?
I don't have an issue with it I just think it's goofy to celebrate a meme. How is that ridiculous?

Would this not be offensive to actual twins?

It's spirit week. That is kind of the point...

They suggested "'Merica Day," but administrators, she said, thought it could be offensive to the school's international students.
Always bowing to the LCD.

it'd be doubly offensive.

I don't think that showing school spirit necessarily needs to be something goofy.
And I'm not siding with the school. I don't think banning it was the right call. It could have been a good opportunity for dialogue between the staff and students.

Senior Stephanie Livingston thought the school's decision was hypocritical, given that students celebrate the Mexican culture holiday Cinco de Mayo. She also believed prohibition of "'Merica Monday" was an affront to students and their family members who have served in the Armed Forces.

frick these liberal PC pussies. This shite it getting out of fricking hand.

Frankly, I find "Merica Day" a little offensive. It insinuates that we are a bunch of fricktards. If they had just made it "America Day" I don't think anyone would have cared.

Then you are an oversensitive pussy.

So, I take it you're a big fan of stupid spellings and representing our nation as being full of half wits?

Im a big fan of jokes that make over sensitive people's pussies sore. Would you like some vagisil?

No, I agree. Had the students genuinely wanted it to be some star-bangled day, then why call it 'Merica Day? Not saying they definitely did not, and they were being ironic...but it's a strange thing to say if you're not being ironic.
'Merica Day seems like you're fishing for future internet meme photos.
I'm not saying I know everything about this, but I went to a rival HS in that school district, be it some time ago. However, I know the community and some teachers that teach at that school.
IMO, it's a bunch of fricktards who couldn't care less about America or patriotism in the form most imagine described. They were trying to be cute and ironic and make vines dressing like Joe Dirt.
In the late 90s, we had "biggest redneck" as a senior award, but it was not genuine "rednecks" -- it was something created by the attention whores who volunteer to organize senior banquets and given to kids who lived in suburban developments, not actual farms and ranches (and the school had plenty of those). People thought it was fun to basically play dress up like an adult. Come to think of it, we were hipsters before hipsters existed.
I bet this 'Murica Day was intended it be a day to dress like this:
Now, the Principal came out with a quote that kind of goes along with my hunch:
quote:.
Update at 10:52 a.m.: In an email sent to parents Tuesday, Fort Collins High School Principal Mark Eversole apologized that ban of “’Merica Monday” was seen as unpatriotic. He said administrators felt “’Merica” is a slang term “often used in a negative stereotypical way to describe life in the United States. This is what led us to discuss alternatives with students.”
My Country Monday, the first alternative to “’Merica Day,” has been changed to America Day
Local Story
They had pro America protesters, who were basically trolled by the HS kids.
IMO, the truth is far more concerning than if the School Administration shut down America Day.

Sounds like the same people that created the Coca-Cola "America the beauitful" Super Bowl Commercial.

I would ban "Merica" Day too.
