He was a great retail politician. He knew how to press the flesh and he at least outwardly looked as though he was having a good time doing it. You could say he was corrupt but effective especially in his first 2 terms. It was a different political world back then EWE was seen as a guy who could get things done a t a time when Republicans were nonexistent in state politics. He was very non ideological in action and he straddled cultural worlds which was a big deal even into 1991. He was a guy with a redneck father and a Cajun mother who spoke very little English. He was at home in both Pentecostal/Baptist revival tents as he was in a Catholic cathedral.
Back in the 70's people wanted this. They wanted a crook who delivered the goodies. He got things done like pay raises to state employees who up until then always got the shift. 500 dollars back then was a lot of money and if a silver headed scoundrel was the one getting it for them....well. at least someone gave a shite.
I will tell you this. Back in 1992 running up to Andrew there was a flood control gate that was not up to snuff. When he was made aware of it. He was on the phone to the Orleans Levee Board telling the Head that if he liked his job, that gate would be working in 6 hours. That gate was working within 3 hours. He might have been corrupt, but incompetent was never a word I would put in the same paragraph with Edwin Edwards.

Probably when he was Governor.
His state trooper bodyguard was his point person for soliciting young women that EE identified as attractive.

Hospice is a sheduled death--usually two weeks
I ran a hospice. This is utter bullshite. If physicians would stop trying to squeeze every dime out of patients before turning them over to hospice too late, people like you would not have this opinion. When a hospice admission is done right it is a benefit to the patient and the family and usually is a relationship that lasts much longer than 2 weeks.
Not admitting people to hospice early, and having their last weeks be much more tough and painful than necessary, is a crime.

"A very good & accurate synopsis"? Sure , if generic terms such as "corrupt but effective" actually means anything. Anything he accomplished in his first 2 terms was 100% based on the fact that La. was booming, the oil field rocking & rolling. With those huge surpluses, no one could mess up running the State. But if you don't think he wasn't stealing left & right, in large amounts, then you are either naive or don't really know the POS. When you say he was "at home" in either world, the actual word that applies is he was a "con man"...
He delivered the goodies, but only after getting his
cut. To me, one of the most odious aspects about his character, and there are too many to count, is the way he took advantage of his black & coon arse supporters, especially the blacks. He bragged long & loud about how he was there for the poor, yet he stole from them every chance he got. As I said, the ultimate con man.

My SIL ended up in hospice and it was terrible… they had her on so much morifine she could not really even function.. but all of a sudden in the middle of the night she sat up in her bed talking about all sorts of crazy shite….. everyone is different and I would just rather die than be pumped full of drugs just to keep me breathing for a few days… what good does that do…
