This is a longer video (9 mins on youtube) but still interesting perspective from a former CIA leader. Later in the video she discusses how Americans give themselves away overseas with the way they stand, smoke, and eat.

No shite Sherlock. Just like a european man gives himself away with a sweater wrapped around his neck/shoulders. Or some dirty arab and his b.o.

The most important key to making the disguise save your life is to keep your name off Democrat Sec State private servers.

When I was in Moscow I was never confused for anyone other than an exchange student from the U.S. studying abroad. I wore my LSU baseball cap, hooded sweaters, hip (for the times) blue jeans, popular sneakers like Reebok Nike NB etc.
Many of the other students studying abroad would grow their facial hair to style, wear Moscovite style coats hats etc. And other Russians would walk up to them asking for directions or local info.

I’m clearly American as frick, white as bread and rocking my A&M Columbia fishing shirt, but I had Arabs in Lebanon coming up to me multiple times asking me for directions in Arabic.
Weird as frick to experience.

Visited London last year. Just about any time I talked to someone there was some form of "I didn't know you were american" said at the beginning of the conversation. All if my foreign relationships havr said I do not look American. I guess they were right.

Some of that’s really good. Inglorious bastards type stuff with the wrong fingers for 3.

In the video it says she is on the Advisory Board at the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC. That Museum is really cool if you have a chance to visit, toms of actual spy gadgets and other information.

I think the quick change thing is a bit much. I haven’t done foreign surveillance, but she said 37 seconds is the target,
I can’t imagine the foreign agent not laying eyes on the target for 37 seconds or longer.

Yeah 37 seconds seemed overly long to me. That example she showed could have ducked into a corner of a retail store and changed that outfit in 10 seconds.
But what little I’ve read about surveillance is that to truly not be caught you have to stay back much further than the movies show and use larger teams that swap off constantly. So in the grand scheme of things 37 seconds really isn’t that long at all. A city bus stopped at a city light in traffic could easily be 37 seconds. Waiting for a subway same thing .
