I think I understood what you mean, I just don't know how you can believe it.

I was out yesterday shopping when my 7 year old son got out the car a black man had some rap music playing very loudly in which every other word was a racial slur. He asked what the word meant...that is a hard conversation to have because it's a black guy blaring it.

My son will likely never have the same questions about other racial slurs because they aren't used so frequently and openly as this.

I know this is just one very small reason why racism won't go away, but it is the one I just don't understand. I know of no other slur that is a term of almost endearment within a race, but if used outside of that race is considered one of the most hateful slurs in the English language.

If people hear the word all the time, because of their entertainment sources, they are bound to slip up and use the word in a casual conversation without any ill intentions. At that point though they will be labeled a racist. Imagine if my son were to go to school and repeat what he heard, my arse would be in the Principal's office explaining how I didn't teach my kid to think like that.

Well, that is because you are trying to understand an ignorant outlook by using logic. Those two things hardly ever go together.

I can understand where you are coming from, because I have seen a lot of white teenagers throw the word around with each other, their explanation is usually that I said ga and not er (Or something to that extent).

Context is the key though, but I think our kids are pretty confused now and days anyway. I had a black student ask me how to spell Caucasian for an assignment she was writing. Another student told her to just write white, and she looked at them and said she couldn't because that would be racist.

What an interesting time we, I have whites and asians calling each other the n word and I have black kids scared to call somebody white out of fear of being labeled racist...
