You're a military guy. What would you have done had nukes been unavailable? Let's pretend we did not acquire them in time to drop them on Japan.

Bomb the shite out of them, bomb them some more, cut them off from supplies, blockade, bomb them some more, bomb them some more, bomb them some more, pummel the beaches, invade, hit everything in site with artillery, eradicate them mercilessly until they unconditionally surrender.
More dead Japanese, more dead Americans, same result in the end.

Actually it's not, Dan. Go back to the last page and read your post about wings and such.
Ah, that wasn't an analogy.

I'm not in philosophical contemplation, just posting here killing time and the discussion popped up. I thought I would engage. I said that I was high when people lambasted my grammatical mistakes.
The only other option was a bloodbath on the front end, maybe it saves some on the back end throughout our dick measuring contest with the Soviets.
I think the most telling aspect of his entire thread is the anger you all naturally muster when anything critical is stated. It's as if you think there is only one side to the story.
The most salient post in this thread was directed to you, and it was pretty much glossed over.

Are you completely incapable of answering a question? It's your supposed scenario, what route are you referring to?

He won't answer. I've asked probably 10 times what he would have done in the same situation.

The best option that did not involve nuclear weapon detonation on civilians.

Spell it out for us, general.

I already said I didn't know what that was.

Okay. How many American deaths are acceptable?

Did they translate something wrong? The person doesn't resemble anything I had envisioned was a "ant walking alligator"

Impossible to adequately answer.
We shouldn't be going into wars that we are not willing to lose.

Posted on 7/18/14 at 4:15 pm to forksup
we did what we had to do, IMO.given the time period and circumstances, seems like the most logical as well.
who the frick am i to judge top military officials and scientist from ww2 by thinking "could have been handled better"....thats just ignorant bs.

Posted on 7/18/14 at 4:16 pm to The Third Leg
Ok, so you you're fine with exponentially more death and destruction on both sides so long as nuclear weapons aren't involved?
