I was all set this morning to go buy a v8 because I was told the eco sucks gas while towing. Anyone have any experience with this? I am far from a gear head. Thanks.

Way to be original. School starts in a couple of hours. You should try to get some rest.

How much does that boat weigh? Is 12.3 good? I never really calculated what I currently so I have no reference. Thanks.

I just did the math. It is 184 miles from my house to many, LA where I fill up. I have a 23 gallon tank, so I guess I am getting about 8 mpg.
That is no good.

Id say dry weight on that boat is around 3500lb and it has a 300 etec(600lbs). the trailer is a tri axle. so total weight is around 6500-7000

Preciate it. My total weight is only around 4000.

I had a tundra before and it would average 8-9mpg towing so yeah 12.3 is very good.

I am sold on ecoboost and the aluminum body. Big game changer. Also I'm not seeing the ford 6 speed trannies like I'm seeing the GM and Dodge 6 speeds.

I am not a gear head so I don't understand how transmissions come into play. I am pulling a skeeter zx190 with a tandem trailer right now with a 4Runner v6. Will probably upgrade to something bigger before selling this new truck.

the aluminum body cuts 700lbs off the truck which pays dividends in mpg, towing and maintenance.

And all that comes crashing down when the timing chain stretches or breaks. I went back to the tried and true 5.0 after my ecoboost experiment and Ford screwed me at 72K miles. Never again.
My MPG in the 5.0 is better than it was in the ecoboost BTW. about 2 MPG on average.

I have zero experience but I can tell you what 2 friends experienced. 1 went from a hemi to an eco boost and has regretted it ever since the first time he pulled his bass boat. Another has loved his eco boost from day 1, until he bought a camper and said he thought the truck was gonna blow up trying to cross the bridge in baton rouge. Traded it on a v8 a week later.

Is reason enough for me to not get a Ford, and I was really looking at them for my next truck.

So did the aluminum spontaneously explode or is it possible the jackass in the picture got the antenna caught in something?

That was just a random picture to show the torn aluminum. That wouldn't have happened if a jackass got a better built truck's antenna caught. There's plenty to see on YouTube of just how weak it is.

I get about 12 with the 5.0. It's a solid motor, seems like mininal gas savings for the Eco.

You are going to want to get the V8 or another brand entirely for longevity and reliability.
