If anyone can find a stand up AC unit that you vent out the window it would be a godsend. Every window I have is 19 inches wide. Smallest window unit is too wide. We have spotty internet on 5 G. Can’t believe TD pulled up. I will travel anywhere to pick up at store or pay to have shipped. It’s 84 degrees in here and they told us 3-4 weeks expect no power. Thanks for any advice. The units I’m taking about stand inside room and you have a vent that you run out window.

In theory, you could build a temporary dry wall window frame around the existing window and put a normal sized unit into the new drywall? This may sound completely stupid, but it might be an option if you can’t find a smaller unit. Good luck!

They’re open? I’m thinking about taking a ride to mccomb to try and buy a small window unit, but Walker would definitely be closer

Thanks Big Bro, and Squirrel. I actually went to walker Stine and bought a 500 BTU window unit, with gas cans. Hours to check out. But we get home and our windows are only 19” wide, unit needs 24” wide.
I have a brother in Laffy who found what I need. He’s trying to get to BR, but traffic showing not moving I. I-10 and 190. So he’s waiting to leave until later.
If push came to shove, I think I could make window unit work but like big bro said, would take mods. The unit coming is 7000 BTU. My generator is only 3000 watt, with 3500 peak. I can’t do any research on phone cause 5G is in and out. If anyone could give me an estimate of how many watts 7000 BTU will
Pull, I would really appreciate it.

quote:That sounds about right. The unit should have a nameplate that will provide some additional info.
1700 to start up
600 to run

Thank you so much DPH. That helps tremendously.
I now can start planning on what things we do without to accommodate the AC if it ever arrives. I think on my deep freeze and refrigerator, I can maybe alternate some things. I know they drain it more than anything else I’m running. Other than that, mostly lights and fans.

Do you have access to plenty of gasoline? The more you load the genset the more fuel it uses.

We’ll just so you know, I haven’t received the AC unit yet. My brother bought it in Laffy, I know nothing about it except 7000 BTU. And until about 30 minutes ago, I had no internet or google. I have zero internet. I have 5G, but it has been out almost all day. So when I got on here, I thought I’d ask because I knew someone would google quicker than I probably could.

I have 15 gallons now. Waited in line last night to refill. I had 30 gallons, but shared with family and friends in a pinch. They will hopefully return to me when they are able to resupply. But on average, gas lines during day are about 3 hour wait and you never know if they’re gonna run out. So I’ve been going late at night.
My generator is very quiet and fuel efficient. Predator, which is a Honda knockoff I was told.

Good luck to you, bruh. We went through this with a tornado in 2019 and Laura last year. All you can do is soldier on through it. I hope they can get you powered up soon.

Map, appreciate you so much. My brother in Laffy hopefully will bring it. If not, I promise you, I’ll use the Link. And thanks for the words Joe Pep. Good just to hear from people that lived it and came out on the other side. And in no way am I comparing the damage to my house to those devastated in other parts. I’m truly thankful and my heart goes out to so many.
But suffering through now 86 degree home with no end in sight causes anxiety. And no access to internet or texting to boot, until recently, and it’s hit or miss. You guys lower anxiety.

Any GoFundMe's for churches or other good institutions who are helping folks out? I'll be happy to donate.

After Laura I said I was gonna get a 25KW water-cooled genset like fishphyter got right before he passed. Dealers were price gouging at the time and availability is still somewhat limited. Still on my radar though.
