For the vets - what was your best/worst command (base)?

I was talking with a Navy vet in the gym last night and we got on the subject of past commands. For those of you who are vets, what was your favorite/best command and what was the worst? Why?
For me, I loved NAS Pensacola - as a single guy, nothing was better than the beaches and it was a target rich environment. But Norfolk wasn't as bad to me as some make it out. Worst? I hated recruiting duty in upstate NY. That shite sucked arse.

when you say command, do you mean base? or specific unit?
Parris Island was my favorite base, by far. I love that area.

Yes, base. Maybe I should have made that a bit clearer.
Play golf there about once a month

Jackson Barracks. Perfectly placed at the Arabi/Lower 9th Border.

I was posted on an exchange program to the Canadian military..duty in Ottawa, Canada. Lots to see and do, was able to spend time with family (after 10 straight years of deployments and BCT life), very different (real winters lol), and learned the most in that 3 year period than in any other job.

USS Flasher SSN 613. CO and most of the wardroom were morons.

Marine Barracks Pearl Harbor. One day one then two days off, although we ran three miles every morning Monday Wednesday and Friday. And, occasionally called out for various reasons.
Oahu beaches and night clubs were a target rich environment. After Nam, it’s like we’d all died and gone to heaven.

20 years Army. My favorite was between Bangkok, Thailand and Wiesbaden, Germany. Germany was awesome for all the history, beer and partying. But we pretty much stayed in the American section of the country. We had no choice but to adapt to the Thai culture and learn to live on the economy. There was no base housing or commissary. It forced us out of our comfort zone and made us live like a local.
My worst is a tie between Fort Drum, NY and Fort Polk, La. They’re both out in the middle of nowhere. I hated the snow at Drum but had great friends there. Polk sucks, but I was 2 hours from home.

Agree with all of this. Wiesbaden, Mannheim, & Heidelberg were some of the most memorable years of my life. Good units, great cities and culture + beautiful women.
All were great experiences, but if I had to rank them:
1. Heidelberg: When it was still USAREUR prior to moving to Wiesbaden
2. Wiesbaden: Wiesbaden Army Airfield / Lucius Clay Kaserne
3. Mannheim: Coleman Army Airfield

not much to do there but in college we used to see Air Force guys come over to the bars in Starkville every once in a while

Best: Camp Smith Hawaii. It Hawaii. Enough said.
Worst- Camp Lejeune. Boring and any female was the wife, or daughter of a Marine unless they were a stripper. Even then it was still possible.
