For high school baseball players, what is the most popular BBCOR bat these days?

Chicken Nugget starts high school baseball in the summer, and he needs to start swinging a -3 BBCOR bat. The Marucci One was recommended to me, but I would like to explore all options. He currently swings a -5 Easton XL1 (end loaded composite)...so we know he will lose some pop when he moves to the BBCOR.

For those who have already gone through this, how much pop was initially lost when moving to the BBCOR?

Whatever was used in Omaha by the teams there last season.

You think of all people here, you would know that we have a separate board for things like this.

As for losing pop...not to be worried about. His strength will develop and bat speed will come back. He just needs to hit the ball well. Base hits will fall and as he grows the distance will come.

just know this. Whatever bat you buy him he'll use whatever bat the hottest batting or most popular kid on the team is using.

Baseball Express has some great prices on last year's models, as well.

As for your other question, the move to BBCOR took away 1 metric shite ton of pop.

I've been out of baseball for a bit, but from my understanding it really shouldn't matter what BBCOR bat is used. Every brand is stuck with those parameters and the slightest innovation seems to be illegal.

Is $500 the going rate for a high school bat?

got it, but I assume there could be variation in where the weight is concentrated in the bat, no? ie, end loaded vs balanced?

Baseball has become a bit of a scam. They could go with the bats from the late 80's (just regular aluminum) and be just fine. It was the early 90s when they started getting out of control and you started seeing football scores in Omaha.

Of course, all the attention is on $300 bats (they were $75 in the late 80s), when instead they could focus on the baseball that costs $10. It's a ripoff for all the parents. Gloves and spikes are expensive enough.

No clue and I could be wrong with my initial statement, but I was under the impression that BBCOR effectively eliminated advances in baseball bat technology.

we paid a kid $50 for the Easton XL1 because the kid was moving to high school and had no need for the -5...that's the way to go...

My son swings a DeMarini Voodoo and really likes it. Might want to check it out.

If you want top of the line, this years model, pretty much.
I'd always get last year's model of the same bat, if available. 99% of the time the only difference is the paint job, and you save from $100-$350.
