one thing that you do need to be aware of, is that I under stand that if you don't wear it enough, your insurance may refuse to pay. you should get some real clarity on that before getting too far in. if your insurance will pay regardless, I think it is a good thing to try out.

2nd best money I ever spent right behind LASIK surgery. Before the machine I'd want to take a nap daily around 1:00 - 1:30. Now I sleep throughout the night, wake up refreshed, feel like a new man !!

This.

These machines have a little memory card that records everything. You have to bring it to every follow up appt. They know if you are using it and they know if you aren't.

Lose weight. Don't smoke. If that don't work, get a dental mouthpiece. The machine will eventually drive you crazy.

They are truly life changing. It took me 1 night to get used to it. They way you feel, energy all changes. Now I cant sleep for 6 hours and be full steam for 18 hours and for me the difference was immediate.

I knew i couldn't handle a CPAP so I had UPPP surgery and other than a few minor things, it's been a resounding success.

you go to sleep with about 30 wires connected to you and they try to simulate the conditions you are used to when you go to bed

Bring your own sleeping pills. Hospitals won't give you shite anymore due to liability concerns.

Exactly

I didn't sleep a wink and they told me everything was normal . I guess they proved themselves right; meanwhile I'm still sitting here with chronic fatigue and waking my wife constantly with my snoring.

I don't understand why those smart arse docs can't figure why thing might be different. Would be like my urologist judging my pee stream in a tiger stadium bathroom trough before the booze kicks in.

I think it's all dependent on where you get the test done. The Hospital I had it done at they have an entire wing just for sleep studies. So before I took the test my Dr asked how I usually sleep. I told them I had trouble sleeping any where that isn't my home, I like it ice cold and I need noise (thanks tug boats). So when I got there they a had a sleeping pill for me,AC turned on like 40 and a big arse fan running for me.

And even with all the wires I slept pretty damn good that night or so I thought.

Nowadays some machines are equipped with a modem that transmits your data to your doctor's office and they also can change the settings via modem, so no more lugging the machine to the doctor's office.

As far as the compliance period for insurance, it's usually 30 days of 4 hours use. It took me a good week to adjust to the machine but after the first night you'll definitely feel more energized throughout the day.

If you are planning on buying/increasing life insurance, do it before you do the sleep study. If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea, you are dicked on life insurance.

I got on my machine last February. It has made me feel better than I have for years. I didn't feel immediately different overnight but about a month in I really noticed the difference. I had been coming home every night from work and immediately falling asleep in a chair, dozing off driving short distances, falling asleep at my desk during the day and often having killer headaches after waking up. Now, none of those things happen anymore and it stopped my snoring too which was so loud my wife and I couldn't sleep in the same room together. If I am ever away from home over night I might leave my pillow, articles of clothing or toiletries at home but I will never, ever leave my cpap machine. It has made a huge difference in my life.

Seriously life changing. Feel great again in the morning with fewer hours of sleep, more stamina during the day and very healthy drop in blood pressure.

I love my CPAP. I can't sleep or even take a nap without it. The speed on mine is set to 9, but I'm going to the doctor this week to see if he can program it to about 15.
