Like spray?

ETA

There is some people who don't like it. Main rub is it doesn't allow the house to breath.

Yes, unless cost is an issue. It's nice to be able to see where to step in your attic, plus that blow in shite isn't getting in everything. It's so much cooler up there too.

*Novice opinion

Cost not really the issue. Just want to hear testimonials... I like it but Ms. Nagin has concerns.

HVAC needs to be sized correctly if you do full foam.

Yeah have talked to HVAC guy. He brought up issues of fresh air intake, and gas fireplace I serfs having issues.

Haven't considered batts in exterior walls.

I would not put it in the walls of a house. I would, and will, definitely spray the barn with it it when I finish it. Do a slab or foundation of sorts if you can for a house, if you have to do it on supports, then definitely spray the bottom.

How do you feel about spray foam under the floor on raised houses? Last winter was brutal for my family in New Orleans.

Look into radiant barrier for both that and for your attic. There is literally nothing better. I used to sell/install the stuff. Whatever you do, dont get the cheap shite from Lowes.

Sprayed in rock wool is 10x better. Also, it's fire and bug treated. 20+ years with it in my house never had a bug in it. Have the same in my attic. I haven't ran the AC or heater from the first of Oct. Just might have to fire up the heater today just to get the smell out the house.

Another thing, high ceilings. No less then 9'. This helps in cooling, but the down side. More work on the heater. Here in Louisiana, we cool 7+ months out the year, so that is the plus.

Do you have a building background? Between the build thread on the OB and some of the advice I've seen here from you, you know what your talking about.

To the OP, I highly suggest you go watch some of Matt Risinger's vids on youtube.

A lot of his stuff is more high-end than what most are looking for but the information, and his delivery of it, are superb for anyone that has house building questions.

He focuses ALOT on waterproofing and insulating. Hes also a huge proponent of building houses with climate controlled attics.

I built a few houses. Not my trade, but I could of been a contractor. I know what it takes to build. Have done a world of research on the newest things for building. Had a couple contractors wanting to hire me. I'm retired.

This is a big plus for houses built in the south. Reason, our attics can run easy 125F in the summer. By venting and exchanging air flow, one can get it down to95F easy. That is about wear my house runs.

Another factor, house placement and design to a lot. More so in the south.

Every dollar saved in heating/cooling is a big plus over the 30+ years of owning a house.

We did a cost analysis, not the one the spray company would give you, but based on the Amy of time we were actually home. In the end, it was going to take like 8-10 yrs to break even, and no one was going to pay $20k+ more for our house just b/c it had spray foam insulation. I also believe that if spray foam was really worth it, why wouldn’t everyone do it?
