I don’t think they have boats in San Jose Costa Rica. I could be wrong.

Where in San Jose do they keep their boat?

Apparently on a trailer since they don't have a marina.

They arrested a 32 year old Nicaraguan security guard who was staying in the apartment room next to hers. She had forced trauma to the head and stabbed wounds to her neck area. Once again Nicaraguans committing crime in Costa Rica making the country look bad.

A security guard for the hostel where an American woman was staying during her last night in Costa Rica has been arrested in connection with her disappearance, local authorities announced Tuesday.

Carla Stefaniak was last heard from on Nov. 27, the night before her 36th birthday, her family told ABC News. The Miami resident traveled to Costa Rica on Thanksgiving Day to celebrate her birthday with her sister-in-law, April Burton, but decided to remain in the Central American country for an extra day after Burton returned to Florida on Nov. 27, the family said.

Bismarck Espinoza Martinez, a 32-year-old Nicaraguan security guard who lived in the room next to where Stefaniak was staying, has been arrested after testimony he gave investigators did not match with surveillance footage or other witness statements, Walter Espinoza, director of Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Department, told reporters on Tuesday. Martinez had been in the country since June, Espinoza said.

So what happened with the manager that said he saw her leaving for the airport at 5am?

That woman made poor traveling choices. Call it sexist all you want...never a good idea to travel alone like that in a third world country as a woman. I can't even easily find the hostel she stayed at online. San Jose isn't a safe city in general...and she stayed near the airport? Most areas near airports are usually not the best areas(who wants to live next to an airport?).

I can only imagine how her poor sister in law feels right now.

Agree. Even in non-third world countries I would hesitate if I were a lady. One of the prettiest, well built blondes I have ever met in my life traveled Europe alone and stayed in hostels the entire trip. (3-4 weeks). I said (to myself).... no way this girl isn't going to be abducted....... thankfully, she wasn't harmed..but I still think it was dangerous. But, in reality, I realize she might have been traveling with a male, or just spent a month with a rich person in a hotel. idk.

Hotels are so cheap already in CR, she could have easily stayed someplace safer and not broken the budget.

We had to stay one night at the beginning and end of our trip to CR in San Jose. I was scouring tripadvisor reviews on any place I considered staying at. Researched all about traveling in CR(where I read over and over to be very careful in San Jose). No way would I have just gotten some random AirBnb on my own there. Hotel we stayed at was not near the airport and located near a more upscale gated/guarded neighborhood. And owned by American expats who had a ton of reviews from people staying there saying it was a great place to stay and safe.

I had 2 girlfriends of mine get an AirBnb for just the two of them at some random house in a beach town in Mexico(Rocky Point) last summer and I thought that wasn't a wise decision.

The boat was in Costa Rica, she just flew in to San Jose, it really shouldn't be too terribly hard to figure that out. I have no idea where in Costa Rica the boat was, it's usually in Marathon.

Do you have any idea if it was on the Pacific side or the Caribbean side.

Costa Rica is a big place.

Most likely the pacific side. San Jose is closer to that side and usually is more popular when it comes to beaches.
