He didn't get arrested, just banned from United.
Seems worth it for viral 15 minutes.
As someone who has no interest either in getting banned from an airline or going viral for 15 minutes, it's a hard pass for me on both counts

Imagine restricting someone to car travel for life for not covering their face with a piece of material that filters particles greater than 5 microns when the virus is 3 microns.
Who is the bigger psycho?

Doesn’t Southwest still require masks?
Yes, all airlines have to. It’s a federal mandate that was just extended.

Since 2001, air travel is a never ending string of security theater. If someone had gotten banned from an airline for intentionally flaunting any of those restrictions, this board would absolutely have taken a "fricked around and found out" position on it. The fact that people have decided that masks are the Rubicon is fricking hilarious to me. Though that's not even accurate, because the next time you're all told to engage in another kind of security theater, you'll all get right back in line. Just don't forget to take off your shoes and belt first.

Well duh. Look at you here and FB. You don't want half of the world to see who you really are. Hard pass on that, bud.

Well, someone did manage to get a shoe bomb onto a plane one day so at least that serves a purpose

On 22 December 2001, Reid boarded American Airlines Flight 63 between Paris and Miami, wearing shoes packed with explosives, which he unsuccessfully tried to detonate. Passengers subdued him on the plane, which landed at Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts, the closest US airport.

You're such a count. Anything I say on TD, I guarantee I've already said in person. I avoid drama on FB 1. because it's fricking stupid and 2. because I don't want to cause problems for other people.
So stop being such a fricking count

The security theater serves the purpose of making people feel better, sure. The reality is that passing shoes through the scanner isn't likely to identify explosives unless it's an absolutely atrocious fabrication job.

The thong is just as effective as the chin diapers

And as a deterrent

Do you have any facts to back that up or are you just making shite up?

You realize that the whole "take off your shoes" thing was instituted half a decade after Mr. Reid attempted that shoe bombing, right?
My understanding from what I've read in the past was that intel was showing that shoe bombs were getting sophisticated to the point that they might pose a problem to current security, so they nipped it in the bud as a just in case.
ETA: Not the source I'm looking for, but Reason apparently ran a fairly recent article on the subject: LINK

I wear an n95 when I fly cause it never fails that I'm seated next to some Louisiana factfCk with a cough from hell and she/he won't cover their face when they talk and then try to shake your hand when you get off the plan.

Did you just equate potentially unknowingly spreading COVID by not wearing a mask which may or may not be less effective than wearing a mask (you haven’t provided any proof) to someone intentionally blowing up a plane with a shoe bomb?
You can’t be that stupid right?

No, and no.
Any other questions?

It was a rhetorical question dumbass. You obviously did.
You “shut up and just comply” bunch are worse than the COVID Nazis. At least they have a spine to stand up for what they believe in. You are either a coward or just don’t want to be inconvenienced.

No, I didn't, you fricking slapdick. And that's my fricking point.
To put a finer point on things, I don't actually give a frick about the masks, I don't actually give a frick about the shoes, and I don't actually give a frick about anything in between.
What I'm taking issue with is that all of you "stop breaking the law, a-hole" assholes all of a sudden having decided that flouting the law (because yes, violating a TSA mask mandate is against the law) is acceptable after years of snickering over people getting locked in cages for dumb shite like marijuana possession. Either it's ok to flout bullshite laws (count me in this camp) or it isn't. Otherwise you're a fricking hypocrite.
And if you aren't one of those stop breaking the law a-hole assholes, sorry. The Venn Diagram of SBtLAA and militant anti-maskers is damned close to being a circle. But my mistake.

Looks like it's covering his mouth and nose well. It's not going to filter out a virus but most masks don't.
It was probably the shirt that angered the authoritarian women.
