use this for anything other than storage or maybe archery target practice

wtf?
It's dark when I get home from work during hunting season, so I could hang a light and shoot up there.

You don't have a flashlight duct taped to the stabilizer on your bow? amateur

Plywood is perfect for an attic. No point in trying to be fancy if you're just using it for storage. Nice flooring might look good at first, but it'll always be dusty and might not do too well with summertime attic temps.

This sounds like its got the makings for a future "how to repair an arrow puncture in a roof" thread.

More worried about that window at the end and my back door neighbor's dogs, really. May have to stack some old mattresses.

Plywood, screw it down. You might have to cut for recess light cans unless they did the whole 2nd floor with 2x12's.

If I help you build your attic shooting range can I bring some of my rifles for some target practice?

There's nothing sticking up. This is a stretch that goes over mostly the car port and then shop. Very little living area under it. House is like an L with a swollen bottom.

Well, without consideration of the dimension, you might want to consider the value of it when you sell it, whether its in 2 years or 30 years.

500 extra feet of floorspace is very roughly $50,000 added to the value of your home. And it could be finished out, if you have the flooring done for less the 10,000. Just a thought.

Plywood, but highly recommend putting a very cheap carpet on top if you are storing anything. Makes life much easier.

Sounds like he is. Walking it straight in sounds golden...I sure hope his stairway is also a straight shot AND he has no turns on the hallway leading TO this standard door....

Cut a piece of the Brazilian Cherry to fit over this and hang it on eye hooks when you are playing Robin Hood and take it down when not in use.

Don't you back talk Terd. He is willing to fight Broke, who weighs about 140, he will fight you.

I used 3/4" OSB. Probably could have gotten away with 1/2" OSB but I had some heavy items.

I cut it lengthwise down the middle myself because I'm a beer drinking, steak eating, redblooded male who refuses to let some pimpleface 17yo shitehead do it for me.

Very easy install

OSB. No reason to put anything else up there. It's rated for moisture exposure, so the humidity won't have much of an affect.

If you're using it for storage, I would hit it with a belt sander first and knock out any rough spots. It will make your life easier sliding stuff around. Also, stagger your ceiling joist connections like this:

It will add strength/prevent movement. Use screws, using sub-floor glue on joists will prevent/minimize squeaking.
