funny you think these incentives make up for anything. Just showing you how much you were grossly overpaying for car in first place

Let me clear it up. My last car was totaled and insurance is sending me a 20K check
Cash the check. Buy the car you want with as little money up front as you can while achieving 0%
Invest the money, earn a return on it higher than the 0% interest

If I've got $20k to put down on a car, I'm buying a $20k car.

Still waiting for you to offer something to counter.

Wait, so it does make up for something? Nice logic

NEVER put cash down on New Vehicles....it's just throwing it away. Very piss poor investment. You would be crazy to even consider it. Dealerships LOVE it, free cash flow

you want me to link thousands of articles in which varying financial minds across the world tell you its financially irresponsible to buy a new car. Nah, I'll let you use google. To pretend to be ignorant of something that is so widely understood is baffling.

The point
Your head
Apparently you can't even comprehend or respond to anything I've posted
Buying a depreciating asset is a financially irresponsible. I've given reasons and advantages to buying new over used in certain situations. I've never argued that buying a new car is better than a used car as a rule. I've said there are other research points and factors that should be included in the equation.
Continue to ignore every single point I've made

I am looking to put down around 20K. Lets say I want a vehicle in the 30-35 K range. How does that work? Monthly payments to pay off the rest? Thanks for your help.
How do some of you people get out of bed in the morning?
Do you not have a father figure in your life?

so the options are
-buy used
-buy new with nothing down and have high monthly note
-put the cash in a savings and make a little off of it.

Your argument is the equivalent of me saying don't walk in the 9th ward at 2am alone because its dangerous and irresponsible and then you saying not uh its possible to walk in the 9th ward at night alone and have no issues.

Know how I know you haven't bought a car like that lately?

So you have no idea how "money" or "finances" work but you've got 20k to go spend on a new car? Tell ya what, hit me up and I'll get ya in a brand new car for 20k with no financing....
you know since you must have never ever bought or paid for anything in your life...

In this case you can research to find what the better decision is in.
In your scenario, you can't do that any given night.....unless you are GPS tracking the criminals

A terrible analogy to go with terrible reading comprehension.
Interest rates, dealer incentives, warranties, miles, and piece of mind (knowing the history of your vehicle) are just fantasies /s

In both scenarios there is a chance you will be fine. Both of them may be remote possibilities and both have a GENERAL "smarter" decison

I realize the irony here but stop responding to this guy, he isn't going to come back to this thread and none of this is real.

One can be researched, and you can make an informed decision.

Still waiting for you to actually say something of meaning.
I literally can't comprehend it for you. I've never said that buying a new car is generally better than a used car. I've said that research should be done to make an informed decision.
Derp
We haven't even got into length of ownership yet and impact on depreciation. We haven't gotten into safety and technology improvements on a used vs new car. Keep your rule, and let others actually try and make an informed decision

ok, so your answer was research and make an informed decision? How fricking enlightening. You could close your eyes and type that response to every fricking thread on the OT
Basically you are telling us there are exceptions to basically everything in life. thank you

My answer? I responded to this statement:
quote:
youre going to be throwing away money the second you drive that car off the lot. Cant find any sub 5k mile cars that you like that are practically new?
With this:
quote:
Likely can't get dealer incentives that help offset the cost on a used vehicle.
Also less likely to get 0% interest. It isn't as cut and dry as you believe
You made this comment:
quote:
doesn't change fact it is not the most financially responsible decision
And I responded with this:
quote:
It isn't necessarily a fact
Dealer incentives
Warranty
Financing
Less miles
Etc
Also be wary of buying used vehicles in Texas and Louisiana right now
I put it in bold to help you out.
quote:
Basically you are telling us there are exceptions to basically everything in life. thank you
Learn the definition of the word "fact". You can't be serious
Tell me more about making an informed decision is similar to walking into the 9th ward at night.
