Get that Whipple done ASAP.

That’s what I expected, too. The oncology group I’m working with told me they used to do Whipple immediately, then do chemo. But they found if they do half the chemo - 6 rounds - before surgery then 6 more after surgery they had better outcomes. Often it may have spread to a lymph node or other organ and scans didn’t see it and opening you up was not good. They want no trace or as few traces as possible before surgery. It makes sense and I’m trusting their expertise. Thanks for the encouragement brother.

Heartbreaking news to get and I’m so sorry to hear it. Sounds like you have a solid plan and good doctors to work with.

Sending prayers your way.

I’ve never been in this situation directly, but I’ve seen similar ones in close family friends. #1, I get wanting to protect your daughter, but I’d encourage at least considering bringing her into the loop. There’s a lot to be said about having a battle buddy to go through it with.

#2, don’t be hesitant to seek outside perspectives. I’ve seen a few people have positive results if they reach a stale mate and just go get another set of eyes at a different hospital.

Not trying to preach at all, just wanted to convey some things I’ve seen, but brother, fight hard. You’ve got this.

Damn man thats tough. I have respect for you for not wanting to stress your daughter out.. i would do the same.. but there is a difference between dumping on her and letting her know whats going on and why you might seem run down (so she doesnt take anything personally)… i know when i kept a serious medical issue a secret for similar reasons i thought i was being stoic but turns out my poker face was pretty crap.. ended up doing more damage that way oddly enough

You seem more emotionally stable than me lol so im sure youll be fine..

There are some great God fearing people on this board and i will say a prayer for you right now before bed.

Whats you and your daughters first names? Ill forward it to a family member who works for samaritans purse.. she just prays for people all day.. its her job

My dad was diagnosed with a 6.5 inch pancreatic tumor in November of 20 and had the chemo plus whipple done in early 21. His was the same diagnosis as Steve Jobs but he moved to treatment faster. Dr Anderson out of Memphis did the treatment and the surgery if you’re looking for recs which I haven’t read the whole thread to see exactly what your type is. My dad is still cancer free now but is a diabetic after the whipple. Good luck and god bless your family man.

First, my wife and I have been praying for your daughter. You have been added to the list. Now that we have your first names it seems more personal.

Second. We recently had a grandchild born at Grandview and everything was great from the doctors to the nurses. We will lift up your team that is dealing with this cancer.

Next, we are not far from the Birmingham area. I don't know what it might be, but let me know if there is something we can do in addition to prayer.

Hey DMagic, I wanted to acknowledge your post and the hope it gives me. That’s great news about your dad. Of course I’m hoping for a similar outcome. I’ve heard that diabetes is common after Whipple. I’ll take that over the alternative.

Mine was found about as early as possible and it’s a small tumor, just a few cancerous cells in a 2-3 centimeter spot. They believe so far it’s confined to the pancreas. Kinda funny saying just a “few” cancer cells but I took it as good news! I’m doing chemo-surgery-chemo as that seems to give somewhat better outcomes according to my doctors. Thanks for your reply, brother.
