Answer this. If you were going it combat, would you prefer to be in a coed unit, or and all male unit?

You should listen to Zoe Bedell. Maybe you could video your reaction for all of us.
I am utterly shocked because she has no concept on what an infantry man faces on a daily basis. She is basing this all on her experience in a low intensity combat situation where you have secure fire bases to operate from instead of prolonged high intensity combat. I can not fathom that any woman would be able to spend weeks on end in protracted combat and not break down physically. I nearly did when I spent almost a year low intensity situation (went from 210 lbs to 179 lbs when I got back to Conus). I can not imagine after being engaged for weeks and having to execute a movement to contact that the average female Marine would be able to handle it if as the A-gunner in a MG squad I have to have them drop packs and get their arse 800m up a ridge to set up a base of fire and I need it immediately! Yes, WM's have a place in the Military and in modern combat there will be brief engagements where they will come under fire. But to force them into infantry units for the sake of political correctness is borderline immoral due to the risk you are placing on their male counterparts. Now she also mentioned how someday a female officer will lead an infantry platoon....the only way that is happening is if they really dumb down IOC. Think of it as a tougher Ranger school with more mental demands such as graded tests and platoon/company level tactics instead of squad level tactics. That is what is the Marine Infantry Officers Course (IOC) is like. Having visited Paris Island in College and on active duty I can tell you that neither Boot Camp nor SOI doesn't come close to it. And most of my Marines looked back on them and said it was easy compared to what training they got once they hit the Fleet.

Yeah because exceptionally fit female athletes are beating down the door of the recruitment office.

I was trying to tone down the rhetoric. Female Marines actually do have a place in the Military. That is doing tasks that can free an able bodied man to other tasks that should be restricted to males only (i.e. The Combat Arms MOS's).
On a different note I went through TBS with the sister of one of the original female American Gladiators (I may be wrong but I think it was Zap). Any way this female officer, who was bigger than her sister, was the only woman that I could think may be able to hack the job of an infantry officer. We lifted weights together was actually sort of close in strength (in the gym) as me but could not come close to my run times nor swim like me. Anyway, we often discussed females in combat and she was adamant that females should never be in the Combat Arms because they would be a liability.
*edit: it was Zap LINK

You think at their walkaround weight, ~145-150, they have the same abilities as most men which are going to be around 180-185? Women are somewhat close to men in lower body but fall off more steeply in upper body strength. Combat is not an MMA event.
Cyborg tops out with reps on deadlift around 300. Most guys are warming up at that weight and zoom past 300. Cyborg walks around at like 165 or more.
A can of .50 cal ammo is about 40lbs. If you're sitting in the back of a HMMWV you pretty much have to unstrap it and lift it primarily with one arm up to the gunner when he's empty. How many 145lb women can do that? How many 180lb men can do that?
Cyborg working out
Here she is doing presses. Hammer machine has a 25lb on each side. The barbell for clean and press has 15lb on each side. I used to do breathing ladders of complex thrusters (a more difficult movement than what she's doing here) in full kit with weapon and ammo with 25lb on each side.
Compare this fireman carry
to this one
start the second one at 1:00
Before deployment, doing casevac drills I had to carry a guy that was a football player in college. Our combined weight with all our kit on was well over 550lbs. I carried him over 100 meters then had to do it again. That takes a toll on someone. You do that regularly with women that have less strength, less upper body bulk to position all the weight on, less mass to counter balance the other person, and you will get injuries and you will attrit your own ranks in training as a result. It's simple physics and biomechanics.
In addition to combat effectiveness, this is also unfair to women who, being pressured by other women, are going to try to prove they are worthy. They will end up injured. This stuff produces ortho problems in men at high rates. It will be dramatically worse in women. There will be a few females that can handle it just as there are some men that can't. But exceptions create the rule.
Not trying to put you on blast, just responding to the general idea in your comment.

Here's how it would go:
M88 this is women.
Women this is M88, over.
Our tank broke.
Women this is M88, use correct radio protocol, over.
Are you gonna help us, yes or no?
Women this is 1SG, what's your location, over.
You can see us on the screen, just come get us, it's hot out here.

you're right for the most part. i just don't have a problem with the exceptions getting their shot. if they can successfully complete and comply with the same exact standards as males.. have at it. if they can't? gtfo.
