Finding the right driver shaft?

Always notice guys who are good golfers or may have one of the better drivers, they always seem to have a custom shaft or something other than the shaft that comes with the club. Where does one get fitted for something like this, find, and how much of a difference does it really make?
Seems to me like a top dollar driver would already come with a pretty good shaft.

Swing speed has a lot to do with what shaft you want on your clubs. Higher swing speed means a stiffer shaft.

Most have just tried several out
There are several charts out there that rate the spin and launch of most shafts and people can use that to determine what's best for whatever they're trying to accomplish.

quote:It's often more important than the driver head depending on the golfer. Obviously, it all comes down to you, the person swinging it, but it's very important for getting the ideal spin/height suited to you.
how much of a difference does it really make?
quote:They do. Most drivers come with about 20-50 shafts you can choose without paying more money. I think Ping is the exception.

not to thread hijack,
but I had my driver shaft cut down a couple inches to 44".
Played with it yesterday for the first time and drove the ball much better.

Uh..no
They may have 3 or 4 options, not counting flex, but most of the other options will have significant upcharges.

The shaft is really important. If we are the same golfer with the same driver, but I've been fitted for correct shaft I'm going to be about 15-25 yards longer. As said any good club fitter will have multiple shafts to choose from. Also, many good PGA teaching pros will have equipment to change the shaft after you buy it. For example, I've gained some speed recently so my shaft had too much whip around where the shaft meets the driver head, and I got my shaft spined and more weight added to the tip. Essentially what spining the shaft is, is moving the balance point of the shaft down towards the driver head to make it stiffer.

Uh..no

The shaft is the most critical component of your driver relevant to getting max performance (distance) out of your driver
Go someplace that has all the new monitoring equipment that sells clubs and get fitted for the best shafts for your swing

They know start flex they need, swinging different materials helps you find what has the best feel.
Advanced golfers can hit anything, but what feels best gives them the most confidence, so that's what you'll see in their hands.

Things must have changed a bunch.
You used to be able to get whatever you wanted but very few of them were free.
I haven't bought a new driver in 2 years

Will Edwin watts do shaft changes in my current driver?
I bought a new driver last year from golf connection in lafayette but the guy talked me out of changing the shaft or shaft length
He was a nice guy but I think he was just being lazy because he didn't check clubhead speed or anything for length
I'd like to make sure the shaft length and make is correct for my swing if Edwin watts will do that
Obviously I'd pay for it
