The guy's life was a open book, he was a introvert, loner, probably suffered from depression, made a decent chunk of money in real estate, blew it gambling. With most of the money gone, and no way to recover financially he entered a deeper state of mental illness and decided to end it all in a away he would forever be remembered.

I should have been more clear in my OP. I am with you in this, I think it was as simple as him wanting to commit suicide, but wanted to go out with a bang first.
The brain is powerful and over time, someone's brain can alter the way that person functions. Or someone can be born without empathy or the brain doesn't produce hormones that create certain feelings, and people just adapt to a "normal" life until that one day they decide to do something like... Shoot up a crowd at a concert from a hotel.
It's just difficult to understand having the mindset to do something like that..

Jack Ruby being in place to kill Oswald was total random luck regardless of his motive. Oswald was supposed to be moved earlier that day, and Ruby made stops along the way to the courthouse, had they taken just few minutes longer Oswald would have already been gone when he got to the courthouse. Not exactly the actions you would expect from someone that had a premeditated plan to kill Oswald.

Charles Whitman. The ORIGINAL "shot lots of people from a high spot for no fricking reason other than maybe a brain tumor" dude.
I'm pretty sure Howard Unruh just kinda walked around capping people and never really had a motive other than "fricking nuts".
Mass murderers don't always have very well definable motives, whether they formulate a plan to climb a tower in Austin with a bunch of rifles and ammo and pick people off or just snap and start walking down the street with a single handgun whacking people.

There is a trail, he blew the money he spent his entire life earning, and at his age believed there was no way to every regain his wealth which probably put in into a deeper depression.
Yes, in his dark mental state he decided suicide was the only way out, and decided to do it in a way that would put him in the history books.

Paddock is the only mass shooter in our history for which no definitive motive is evident.
He also executed his mass shooting with amazing planning over at least a couple of weeks.
The handling of this investigation being the largest mass shooting in American history was hair raising regarding the lack of information which continues to this day.
It is the shadiest thing I’ve seen in my 46 years.

Whitman had a brain tumor.He left a damn trail before he went to the tower in killing his wife and mom and left multiple letters saying what he was gonna do and asking for an autopsy because he knew something was wrong with him.
