I filled for unemployment today and was only allocated $250 a week from Louisiana. Does anyone know how to recieve the $600 a week from the federal government that was signed into the CARES act?

I don’t think it kicks in until April 17, and it will be added automatically.

I don’t believe it is set to go into effect until next week or the week after. I would assume the amount is automatically added.

This all assumes the feds don’t transfer the money to the state and LA just keeps it for themselves.

ETA. I know a couple of people for whom this amount will be a pay raise and they have already stated it is making then hesitant to look for work. The program is a horrible idea. Especially extending the length of benefits. Not just unskilled workers either. One of them is a kindergarten teacher at a Catholic school. I was shocked to learn how little she is paid.

Louisiana workforce put out a statement yesterday. Said they didn’t receive money yet from feds. So either they’re lying or Mnuchin is, because he said states would have the money this past week. However, the statement said that the $600 payments would be retroactive to the week ending April 4th. So that’s a good thing.
