Good luck to your pops. Keep positive.
Thanks
He has been kicking arse through it. I was worried it would knock him down but he still works around his house and has actually gained 22 lbs during this now that he is retired and eating my mom's cooking every day. He had lost a lot of weight for the previous 3 months before he found it was cancer causing it.
The docs have said everything is very encouraging and he has reacted as good as anyone they have ever seen to the treatment.
Honestly, as hardheaded as my dad is, we wouldn't have caught it as soon as we did if the tumor didn't form where it did. It was blocking his airway so he had no choice but to go to the emergency room a few months back. If had been on the bottom of the lung we wouldn't have known until it was too late probably.
I am just grateful that we are at this stage but I know we still have a ways to go. One more month and we will get another scan to see if it's gone. I am cautiously optimistic.

How's your mom, Cork?
I was thinking about you and her the other day. I hope y'all have gotten some good news too.

Stout, this is good news. I have remembered him in my prayers daily since you posted about it. I wanted to ask, but I figured you'd speak of it when you were ready.
Lucas, good news on your friend as well. I have no doubt she didn't want to miss any of your humor.

I pray for your Mom as well.
I figure the Lord will know who Corksoaker's mom is.

She starts her 6 out of 6 round of chemo this Friday. Before her 3rdround, the PET scan already showed zero cancer left, and apparently there was a lot before she started. They say her entire abdominal cavity was full of cancer before. They will do another scan after the 6th round to see what if anything is the next step. I am extremely grateful it responded so well to the chemo. She is an absolute rock star and hasn't missed a beat. She goes to work everyday, picks up my daughter from kindergarten everyday, and is loving life. Her dr at MD Anderson is pure brilliance and pretty darn hot too. They are working miracles over there.

Thanks, Vette
It's been a roller coaster but seeing how well he has gone through it, and the fact that he hasn't slowed down any has been pretty encouraging.
The biggest thing he's been complaining about is being bored since this forced him into retirement. He did buy a boat though so as soon as it cools down some I know he will be on the water constantly.

Thank you! We absolutely believe in it! My mom always says she likes her prayers to be specific, so she would love your post. However, I am not going to tell her about it as I do not want to have to explain my username to her.

I know y'all were grateful to receive the news. I hope she continues to kick cancers arse.

Yep, they are the best.
I've had 4 friends beat stage 4 cancer there.

Seriously, how can some overcome stage 4 cancer, while others cannot?
Don't go "miracles happen" on me, I just want scientific answers.
And congrats to Old Bird.
Combination of things.
When someone is deemed stage 4 it general means a primary tumor (breast in the ladies case) + distant metastasis. Could be a lymph node. Could be another organ, such as lung, bone, liver etc. However, just saying someone is Stage 4 doesn't tell the entire story of their cancer.
While they are concerned about "stages" as they are correlated to prognosis they are also concerned with what is called tumor burden and local invasion. Basically how big a tumor is and how nasty that fricker is.
Someone could have a relatively nonaggressive metastatic disease vs someone could have a really aggressive local disease. It all really depends on the type of primary tumor and site of metastasis.
Another possibility is she could of been staged incorrectly.

That's OK, hon.
I really do say it, though. He knows all, so don't worry about it.
Stout, we bought a boat a few months back and it's hot, but if he'll go early,,it's not too bad.

Yea I am going to take him when he's ready to go. He has radiation every day at 8AM though for 4 more weeks and the radiation has made him a little sensitive to the Sun.
He will be wrapped up right when the fall weather starts.

AOK.
Shoot me an email and I'll point you to some spots if you're in the Mandeville/Slidell area.

I have to admit that I'm conflicted here. To say this is out of character for you is like saying...well, this is out of character.
Congrats on the cancer I guess?
I'm so confused.

Honestly I'll take that as a compliment. But thanks. It always sucks when cancer happens, figured a good news story couldn't hurt (whether it's in character or not).

Wished back in 1989 they had better treatment, maybe my 1st wife could have beaten her breast and liver cancer. Maybe one day cancer will be a thing of the past. Prayers to all.

I am convinced it depends on the strength of the persons immune system pre-Cancer.
I was first diagnosed at age 40 with stage IV Diffuse Large B a Cell Lymphoma in April 2010. By the time I started chemo, it was aggressively growing in my cervical(neck) , thoracic and pulmonary lymph nodes. I had 6 lesions on one kidney and 4 on the other as well as on my pancreas. We rather easily sent that Cancer into remission. My Oncologist said he had never seen a cancer retreat into remission that fast and never a late stage cancer. Unfortunately, it relapsed a half year later. My prognosis was pretty dire with a 35% survival rate. I was refered to Winship a Center at Emory due to the nature of the aggressive treatment. It was a "go for broke" plan. It was far worse than the first treatment. I had a tumor wrapped around my lower spine that was 14 cm tall by 10 cm wide. I could not walk and the compression was unbearable pain. I won't bore you with all the details of the treatment but I was inpatient at Emory for 72 days and it culminated with a stem cell transplant. This was 2 1/2 years ago and it wrecked my body good and I am still dealing with the effects of that ordeal.
Prior to the cancer, I lived 40 years rarely getting sickness of any type. A common cold once a year at most. I had a very strong immune system. I believe those like me who have a historically strong immune system are pre-disposed to have a better chance of survival. People who suffered sickness frequently pre cancer are less equipped to handle the toxic bombardment of late stage aggressive treatments. Especially those up in age and historically ill prone.
