fence installation laws in Lafayette (Duson)

Does anyone have some information that may help me out here? I live just west of Lafayette which is technically Duson and I'm looking at installing a privacy fence myself. First I plan on talking to my neighbors to make sure the location of the fence is satisfactory with them but I just plan on replacing a chain link fence with a wood fence basically in the same spot. Do you need a building permit for a certain height? I want to do an 8' fence but I've read for Lafayette you need a permit above 7'. I live on a corner lot so does it have to be so many feet from the road? Any other advice? Thanks.

This is Tigerdroppings, not the Duson Dept of code compliance.

What could go wrong?

Had neighbor replace a fence, put new post in same location as old post, did not call the "call before you dig people" because it was the same location. Since the new post were going to be 2 feet taller than the originals he dug each post hole a foot deeper with a rented power auger, hit ATT fiber optic cable and killed internet and phone service in the area. After getting a lawyer and some back and forth with AT&T they settled for $35,000 for the damage.

Yeah I don't believe that for one minute.

If you're in a HOA then find out. If you're not go to the courthouse and see if there is a covenance for your neighborhood. If there is it might be expired. Neighbors might know, might not.
Ex: I just bought a house here in Illinois. It's in the country club. The area was established around 1990. I want a fence so I asked the realtor, she went to the courthouse and looked up the covenance for me. They expired a few years go. Only thing is 1ft off property line. A lot of homeowners don't have fences out there but I met my neighbors and they have no issues. (I could care less, but snobby neighborhood and I know one of the neighbors owns the McDonalds and she's a bitch. The neighbors said don't let anyone tell you can't do anything.)
TLDR; See if there is a covenance and typically it is 1ft off property line without building permit.

"AT&T Inc. filed a claim in October 2014 seeking $99,900 in material damages and labor expenses that resulted when the city placed a new water main around 220 Garfield Avenue. While digging, city staff hit multiple underground cables and damaged a conduit, according to the claim."
"Monterey Park finalized an $85,000 settlement with AT&T on Sept. 9, said Tom Cody, director of risk management."

You should. At&T will go after anyone that cuts a fiber line and didn't call ahead to mark their lines. They have a guy on payroll that his only job is to collect on these types of incidents. It happens quite a lot.
