The fence is on his property and the “good” side faces him. It blew down in the storm.

Neighbor calls me and is angling for a contribution towards a rebuild.

I always thought you need to pay 100% for fences on your property. Is that expected or is some coordination and contribution/cost sharing expected?

Don’t need a legal opinion, just want to know what’s customary and neighborly.

You're not getting it. There's an opportunity for you to participate. If you don't want a fence or genuinely don't care, then just tell your neighbor that. If you want a fence and your neighbor isn't willing to pay the whole amount then you may not have a fence.

Clearly you should move to some town that you evacuated to, as this entire board seems to be doing. The fence is not worth returning to.

There will be no sirens, and no car break ins. It will be worth it.

Do you need the fence to keep kids dogs etc. In your yard?
If yes pony up half.

Go back with PVC so both sides are good.
Even HOAs who used to mandate wood have been revising rules to include PVC choices in recent years.

Bra, no need for 2 fences. You share dat fence and share the cost. And you want the runners facing you side, so none of those grubby little kids can climb up the runners and spy on whatever nudist activities may be going on in your yard at the time.

We have this happen all the time over here in Texas.

The general rule is you pay 1/2, if you get the shitty side too bad.

My neighbor and I had this happen and went halves on material then did the labor our selves, we built a big 10ft MF'er too with metal poles

We replaced our fence (not storm related) and our neighbor offered to contribute. We thanked them and told them it wasn’t necessary. It was nice of them to offer.

You get the privacy too regardless of having the “good” side and you get it for half price.

My HOA says no fences are allowed in the neighborhood. Much cleaner look and no fence squabbles.
