Electronic cigarettes and premium cigars will now be regulated the same way as tobacco cigarettes and regular cigars, according to a new federal rule issued on Thursday.
Under the rule, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration would have to approve all tobacco products not currently regulated that hit stores after February 2007. The e-cigarette industry was virtually non-existent before then.

The Tobacco Control Act of 2009 sets February 15, 2007, as the latest date by which all tobacco products would have to have to be grandfathered in. Mitch Zeller, head of the FDA's Center for Tobacco Products, has said publicly that he couldn't choose a later date, although industry officials disagree.

That means nearly all every e-cigarette on the market — and every different flavor and nicotine level — would require a separate application for federal approval. Each application could cost $1 million or more, says Jeff Stier, an e-cigarette advocate with the National Center for Public Policy Research and industry officials.
An amendment to appropriations legislation working its way through the House would change the date so more e-cigarettes would be grandfathered in.

I'd rather people smoke cigarettes than vape, tbh.

Why on earth...
Cigarettes smell so foul and that odor lingers on them and in the air. Its so gross.
This coming from an ex-smoker.

I don;t know much about e-cigarettes. But I thought they contained no tobacco, right? If that's the case, how can they fall under this law?

Liberal goals - Ban tobacco legalize Marijuana. I'd say they are on track. Especially with a locked down four more years in the white house now.

Legalize and regulate both.

Yep, people that vape are more annoying and way less courteous than regular cigarette smokers.

Pretty much.
(Blowing near you) "What?! I can do this because it's not smoke. It's not hurting you. I can do this at the park, in your office, or in the diner. It's not hurting anybody." (BLOWING LOUDER)
I'm glad places have started to ban vaping in places like bars, restaurants, and such.

I think this applies to e-cigs which use tobacco-derived products while "vaping" use oil containing pharmaceutical-grade nicotine. I couldn't find anything that specifically states whether e-cig does or does not mean vaping oils.

I used vaping to quit smoking and I currently am half way to my goal of eradicating nicotine from my life.
I treat it exactly as smoking. I go to "smoking areas" to do it, don't do it around crowds and don't do it around my kids.
Call me trashy all you want, but this is the only thing that has made me feel like I can really quit cigs for good. By the end of the summer I will also quit the vape.

Because of the nicotine content?

Including premium cigars in this legislation is ludicrous. Not one time have I seen a child, teen, hell even a young adult smoking a premium cigar.
I firmly believe in sin taxes, but this sort of regulation of premium cigars is going to stunt a niche market that has 0 impact on today's youth.
