Yep Dr. Soak was the man. Had him for micro. Every year during Ole Miss week he would come to class decked out in LSU gear and lead the class in a geaux to hell Ole Miss chant.

There's a difference between liking someone for the person they are not what kind of professor they are.

Gaines Foster's American History classes were the best. I think he is a dean now and I am not sure if he teaches any more.

I took him for both American History classes in the early 90's. He was a great lecturer and made a subject that I had no previous interest in very fascinating. I worked and studied my arse off for a "B" in both classes. It sometimes took him a couple of weeks to give tests back, but that was because he actually took an active part in grading them and putting comments on them instead of leaving that to his TA's. He just seemed like a guy who genuinely loved what he was doing and I always appreciated professors like that.

Man, Foster was a great man too. Spent a lot of time in his class getting help on papers and just chatting in general. I loved his Reconstruction/Old South classes.

Actually just found a few of my old papers from his class and he wrote comments on each page. Great professor.

Dr. Roider was great too.

Was it Dr. Roider that called exams "OTEs"...Opportunities to Excel? Seems like I remember him as ex military and teaching WWII history, but that's been 30 yrs on.

Wayne Parent--LA Politics--elective, but a fun class

Dr. Sofoliski (spelling?) biology

Had both those guys, and were both excellent. I believe it was Sokolovsky for the Zoology 1002, he was a Kansas State guy, I remember him in the 80's talking about KSU being in the bottom 10 in football (there used to be an old weekly newspaper column on college FB called "The Bottom Ten" in the 70's and 80's), but that they were among the leaders in public educational institutions in Rhodes Scholars.

I had Parent during the '88 Bush v. Dukakis presidential campaign. Excellent teacher, wrote me a rec when I applied to med school.

I wish I had the same experience some of the people in here had with Hilton. I had him for what was likely his last class before he retired, and boy did he mail it in. His TAs were total bootlickers and graded completely different compared to what Hilton rambled on about. I ended up bringing him a test I got a D on and he was totally unaware of how his TAs were grading, I ended up with a B in the class but it was not fun.

I forget his name, but he taught three classes on the History of the Vietnam War in 1994.

Pretty sure that had to be Stan Hilton as well.

He got a standing O from the students at my graduation when they announced him as one of the professors...never seen that before. I took his class and he was easily my best professor at LSU.

Another very, very good professor I had was Mary something for anthropology elective. Had very short hair. She was involved with the FACES lab and forensic investigations. She was on a TV show at some point for her work.

She'd bring all kinds of cool stuff like real skulls or artifacts to class. I could tell she loved her job.

THIS. And The Royce-meister and his turtle neck suits were also good; loved his stare down on late students.

I'll also have to go with the old guy who taught Animal Pysch. He'd get off on a tangent (provoked by us) about who would win in a fight> A leopard or gorilla? A buffalo or ram? A frog or newt?

Yep, Locket basement FTW. I loved me some of that. Ed Dangerfield, Kendrick Allen, and Terrence o'Braynt always skipped or slept; Bradie James was there like clockwork.
