Parlange (New Roads)

Mr. Walter and Miss Lucy were dear family friends...spent soooo many summer days on that tire swing.

Sigh.

Thank God I had a Louisiana childhood.

Destrehan Plantation, the oldest of them all, built in 1787.
It was very much in disrepair in the early 1970s and then an intensive restoration effort began.

I've had this book since my high school graduation in 1978, which my Mother bought for me.

Those of you who have seen it know that the greatest house in Louisiana is not in this thread, but is in the book.

The last I heard, Magnolia Ridge has been closed to the public for several years.

My GF's family used to own Homeplace, not far up the road from Magnolia Ridge.

We did some restoration on Rosedown back in the early 80's . I was re-lathing a wall and found a book inside the wall . It was the Black Code . Basically the code of owning slaves . Example , X amount of lashes for whatever crime .

LC, my parents had this book as well. I think my evil sister liberated it from their house after their exeunt.

I might try to find it on the eBay or the Google.

Destrehan (aesthetically) for the win.

Yeah, the house was never open for tours, but they used to let people walk around the grounds. After Hurricane Gustav blew down a bunch of trees, they closed it to the public and never reopened.
