Well that changes things then. Airline fricked up.
I mean...we have all seen people abuse the wheelchair assistance airlines provide (who hasn't seen a massive landwhale get wheeled onto a plane before everyone else). But an easily confused elderly person? Yeah that is a legit reason for these types of services the airlines offer.

airline offered her an escort and she declined. If she has dementia, then its on the family for allowing her to travel by herself. An airline can't be in a position to force their customers to be escorted.

Wouldn't let someone elderly with a known mental disorder flying alone be like letting a child fly alone? I mean who really does that?

Course....did the family make these arrangements on the phone or at the desk and an employee didn't add this note in the system?
When I flew my family to PHX from MSY I added on my dad's reservation online that he had to have wheelchair assistance (he can't walk far due to his disability). I was very specific at the ticket counter on what he could and couldn't do(he could walk onto the plane just needed the assistance to the gate and help not getting lost).
If the woman had any dementia issues that family should have been crystal clear with airline staff about it (ex: "she may try to decline help...don't let her" or something like that).

My wife deals with insurance defense. It’s not about wining at all. They show their client the cost after discovery to fight it 9/10 the client agrees to just cut a check to make it go away. It’s super super annoying. I tell her all the time if y’all would just fight a few cases for loss causing client to lose these lawsuits would diminish, but it’s not their call it’s clients. Most ambulance chasers don’t even know where court houses are, much less what the inside of one looks like. They make money off causing cheaper way to make things go away. Frick ambulance chasing attorneys. I’m all for legal suits for true injuries caused as a result of negligence, but this wasn’t anyone’s fault other than her own. Honestly, even if it’s stairs wtf...she should have known it wouldn’t end well. No way she thought it was a ramp. Any chance she wasn’t of sound mind even??

Yeah, you don't have a clue. What your wife didn't tell you is that she gets paid for needelessly dragging on cases for years, and probably does so all the time.

I agree that if that is true, the airline is very negligent and this family needs to take them to pound town.

Who the hell sends their immobile grandmother traveling with no assistance. Can't rely on the airline to do that for you correctly.
