Why did he continue staying there AFTER being threatened? I’m going straight to the police and getting that piece of shite locked up

What a bizarre situation. How and why would a student be forced to live with a non-student?

I would have gotten the frick out of there the second it happened and stayed with a friend, slept in the woods. WHATEVER

Only thing I can think of, is that caldwell may not have wanted to leave his stuff there letting the roommate have free rein to steal or damage whatever he left.

Either that or he was killed in the process of trying to get out, but I haven’t really kept up to know all of the details.

An apartment complex can't just assign Caldwell or anyone in an apartment to stay with " Tyrone in 5c until your unit is repaired ".

The slumlord did it in Coming To America.

Akeem and Semmi were not assigned a random roommate.

WITAF??? his teammate is 'possibly' involved in his death too???

He could have all my shite, did he not call the police? If someone threatens my life with a gun the cops are getting called.

There is much more to this story

I believe each bedroom in the unit can be locked from the outside since it’s basically just 4 individual rentals that share a kitchen/living room.

The family also mentioned in the press conference that the mold issue and him moving to a new apartment happened back in March, so it’s not like the ‘roommate’ was new or unknown by now.

I wouldn’t feel safe with someone who pointed a gun at me on the other side.

We’ve all lived in college apartments and think about how easy those door locks are to defeat. You think his stuff was safe with his door locked?

Now I agree with another poster in saying I personally would have split and dealt with my stuff later, but I’m not blaming the kid for staying if that was the case.

Family of Slain NSU Football Player Filing Lawsuit by bakersman

I work in Natchitoches and those apartments were built with intent for students to live off campus, even though it’s across the street from campus. I don’t know why non students are able to live there and much less student athletes to room with non students

There is a big apartment complex across from Cajun Field in Lafayette where a lot of the student athletes live, but it's also full of complete ghetto trash. I would not want to be there if I was a student.

The Quad apartments across from campus next to Super1. I remember seeing a set of apartments roped off with police tape the morning it happened to didn’t know what it was about until it was on the news.

I can think of at least two other cases of student athletes who were murdered by roommates. One was Tina Stewart in 2011. The other was Patrick Dennehy in 2003.

This makes more sense than " you can stay with Tyrone in 5c until repairs are done." Some type of suite with a shared kitchen/ laundry area?

But why is a 27 year old non student living there?

There is a good chance Laird or his proxy sat across a table and told the boy's mother he would take care of him like his own.

100% chance they told them that , but at the end of the day this type of violence is shamefully inescapable. It happens in Austin, Baton Rouge, Natchitoches,etc... & I'm reluctant to just totally blame NSU for a wider societal problem .

I need more info, but more was expected of Laird from a seemingly very good family

If I was the sheriff the guy who killed him would suddenly go missing. This shines a huge spot light on the town and university.

If I was sheriff the apartment manager would resign and abruptly leave the parish. I would also have a long talk with the property owner higher visibility on his property along with a lot more drug searches which means destroying his property.

The university president and athletic director need to resign. The coach did resign and all need to go with black marks on their record which hurts them in finding jobs at other universities. Who would ever want their son to be apart of an athletic program ran by this coach & AD.

This was a stupid move by the university from the president down.

The university needs to pay up for this screw up.

I thought him having a 27 year old roommate was odd.

I’d figure they would room with a teammate.
