How anyone still has a facebook account is beyond me...

quote:

Facebook Inc. has been paying hundreds of outside contractors to transcribe clips of audio from users of its services, according to people with knowledge of the work.

The work has rattled the contract employees, who are not told where the audio was recorded or how it was obtained -- only to transcribe it, said the people, who requested anonymity for fear of losing their jobs. They’re hearing Facebook users’ conversations, sometimes with vulgar content, but do not know why Facebook needs them transcribed, the people said.

Facebook confirmed that it had been transcribing users’ audio and said it will no longer do so, following scrutiny into other companies. “Much like Apple and Google, we paused human review of audio more than a week ago,” the company said Tuesday.

I doubt that.

People used to be scared of the government / corporations listening to them.

Now we willingly sign up, and in some cases pay, for them to do so.

Facebook is basically a political chat room for people over 50

I haven’t looked at it in years

Do you have the facebook messenger app or the facebook app on your phone?

If you do, congrats on having your conversations recorded.

I love how every time they get caught doing sketchy shite involving privacy they just casually say they will no longer do it

"oh, our bad, you dont like that? We won't do that anymore"

I'm not the biggest fan of having to live in a Facebook world but it does actually have some benefits, such as small businesses (restaurants, gyms, etc.) usually have better updates on their FB pages than their websites.

My basketball league live-streams games on FB (but nowhere else). Similar to Twitter, news can be personally tailored.

Sometimes I think that non-FB users just assume it's only about drama queens whining all day with no other benefits.

as an adult, why would you hold a conversation on Facebook to begin with?

I got the impression its more than that, and that they are recording random voice conversations unbeknownst to the user through your phone microphone.

That’s what they all say when you know the government is the one paying for the data they collect. They’re not going to ever actually stop doing that shite.

I love how you make a definitive statement regarding the nature of something you haven't looked at in years. Are your other opinions this well informed?

I’m so sorry that without Facebook you’d have to put up with those extremely minor inconveniences.

It's getting to the point that every time I hear someone from the legacy media or big tech say something is a conspiracy theory, I translate that as meaning it's true.

If you look at the EULA for the Facebook Messenger app, you are giving them permission to record from your phone. Even regular calls, no just conversations through Facebook.

I don't think the regular Facebook app EULA gives them access but definitely the Messenger app.

I wouldn't put messenger on my phone (no tin foil).

Even without FB, google and apple are doing it all the time anyway and forwarding it to the NSA.

Maybe we'll find out that Karl Malone was the smart one.
