Your nephew will be making over 6 figures the day he gets out of the service as a civilian contractor for the military.
If he doesn't want to work as a mercenary, he can always send a resume to the folks he probably currently calls "OGA" (Other Government Agency, a.k.a. - The CIA) and continue to increase his gov't retirement benifits.

I'm worried that he may be deployed to fight pirates in Africa pretty soon. He's a Senior Chief who had switched from a boat, to training new guys at Little Creek, about a year ago. He got bored with it, and decided he wants to get better retirement by becoming a Master Chief. He has to have a certain amount of time with his own crew to get there. The Navy is more than happy to have him available for God knows what, again.
He had to bring his newly formed crew down from Little Creek, to the Stenis Center, for River training for a couple of months. A few months later, they were in North Carolina. Could have been at Camp Lejeune or Fort Bragg, but I'm thinking it might have been the Coast Guard base at Elizabeth City. They have some kind of Small Boat station there. I'm thinking they were doing some "how to board, search, and seize" training.

Special Boat Team 22 operates out of Stennis. They've got some badass assault craft that are just bristling with firepower - .50 cal machine guns, 7.62 mm chain guns, 40 mm grenade launchers and who knows what else. They are frequently seen blasting down the Pearl River and other local waterways at about 50 knots loaded with Ninjas. It looks like a ton of fun, especially when there's no return fire.

He used to operate one of the Sealion stealth boats like me this one. They get up to 20 guys in them. With two guys up front, running the boat.

Imagine placing a small bit of highexplosive on each one and flying into caves, houses, and any other place to kill targets.
We already have this...
The Switchblade UAS can be launched by hand or by a mortar tube. It can be fitted with explosives and once launched it can be guided to a target.

They don't have to be reverse engineered, totally autonomous drones that can fly to a predefined target, identify it and destroy it are available of the shelf to anyone with the means to pay for them. The fear now is that a terrorist group will get a dozen of them outfitted with a 4 1/2 pound explosive charge and program them to fly to and identify things like aircraft on the ground, land on the planes and detonate. There is no defense as two guys could launch a attack from a van only yards outside a airport/military base fence or other targets like the White House, there would be no time to react.
Yes there is a defense. The BIG thing right now in OFS and OIR is C-UAS (Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems). I have seen C-UAS systems small enough to be man-packable for the field to systems that take 2 MAT-V's for one system.
Just a few of the C-UAS systems:
Corian
Mads-K
M-Lids

They have. And I’ve heard reports of commercially purchased drones being flown into American hangers in Afghanistan.
BS!!! They are a problem in OIR, but not OFS. How do I know? I work in Afghanistan.

Let me put it this way...if this was happening I would have heard about it. I work very closely with the C-UAS community.
What more than likely happened is someone reported one of the drones that is used for testing the C-UAS systems as being hostile. There is a big push in theater for people to report drones and UAS vehicles. I just spent 2 months at KAF and people were doing such a good job of reporting US UAS vehicles that they now announce base wide when there are going to be friendly UAS's in the air.
