Very common in Vietnam for guys to eject, get rescued and be back in the jet the next day, knew of a Misty that ejected and flew his next sortie the same day

You don’t own that plane. The tax payers do!

Highly doubt they are still building them, especially with the F-35 out there, but that doesn’t mean we just threw all the operational ones in the dumpster though.

Oklahoma ANG plane.
There was also an F-22 "mishap" at Eglin this morning -its landing gear collapsed and hit nose down. Pilot safe.

Are we still building F-16s?
No not still building. Still flying and upkeeping those in good order. Also saw that we sold off a chunk to some middle eastern country.
Lockheed opened a plant in Greenville, SC to build 128 of them. I thought they were just refurbishing old ones, the following article makes it appear to be new ones.

The pilot of a Tulsa F-16 fighter jet is ok after crashing in Louisiana Wednesday afternoon.
The pilot was Major Alexander Drummond, the son Gentner Drummond who is running for election for Attorney General of Oklahoma this June.
The jet is assigned to the Tulsa-based 138th Fighter Wing of the Oklahoma Air National Guard, but the jet and Alexander Drummond were taking part in a routine training mission in Louisiana that departed from Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Texas.
According to Lt. Col. Legler with the National Guard, the F-16 was taking part in a routine alert mission when, for unknown reasons, the pilot had to eject as the plane crashed to the ground.

Your injuries are evaluated and then a decision is made. I know a few people who have survived ejections and are still flying, and I also know a guy who didn’t fly again because of injuries sustained from an ejection
True, the last Commander of the 19th FS ejected twice out of the F-15 was relatively unharmed...
If the correct pre-ejection procedure is followed, it can take some stress off the aircrew. Nose up, zoom, punch...repeat.

Well, I'm pretty sure the reason the pilot had to eject was the plane crashing to the ground.

Surprised they are making new airframes, there were a bunch of them mothballed, enough, they started using them as target drones when the F4s were all gone.

Seems a little last minute to eject, or is that normal?
In the early 2000’s, the crew of a B2 ejected with a wing touching the ground. Both pilots were ok.

Doesn't a B-52 have a larger drew than two? I watched Dr Strangelove and it seemed like there were a whole bunch of other guys aside from MAJ Kong and his co-pilot.

It does, but he’s talking about the B-2. One of they guys on that jet is one of the guys I was talking about earlier.

Beauregard Parish, LA (KPLC) - The F-16 fighter jet that crashed in rural Beauregard Parish Wednesday morning was part of the 138th Fighter Wing of the Oklahoma National Guard out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, military officials said.
The crash happened around 11:15 a.m. near Bertrand Road, but was 2 to 3 miles in the woods off the road.
The pilot was able to safely eject before the jet crashed in a clearing in the woods, according to Kavanaugh Breazeale, public affairs officer for Fort Polk. Fort Polk personnel responded to the crash.
The pilot, who was quickly located, was able to stand up and walk away after reaching the ground, according to Lt. Col. Geoff Legler, public affairs officer for the Oklahoma National Guard.
The pilot was identified by his family as Major Alexander Drummond, mission commander with the 138th Fighter Wing.
Drummond’s father, Gentner Drummond, released the following statement:
“As a parent, the first thing I wanted to know when I received the news of the crash was, of course – is he OK? I’m relieved to know that Alexander is alive, receiving outstanding medical care and is expected to make a full recovery.
“The Air Force pilot in me wants all the details of exactly what happened, but it’s way too early for that. What I know at this point is that during a training run over Louisiana, Alexander had to ditch his F-16 in an empty Beauregard Parish field, sparing any injuries on the ground.
“When you serve in the military, you put your life on the line day-in and day-out – whether our country is at war or not. As an American, I thank my son for his service and his commitment to fighting for our freedom.
“God was watching over Alexander today, and I am so thankful for his safety and well-being. Our family looks forward to getting our arms around him as soon as possible.”
The jet was flying out of Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base, southeast of Houston, as part of a routine alert training exercise in which it was to conduct a mock air intercept of another aircraft, Legler said. The flight was expected to last about an hour-and-a-half, but had not reached the point of the mock intercept when the crash happened, Legler said.
The Oklahoma National Guard regularly flies F-16s out of Ellington, Legler said.
No homes were in the area of the crash, Breazeale said.
Local law enforcement, including the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office, first responded to the crash before military personnel could arrive, Breazeale said.
The crash site has been turned over to the military.
