Exxon cares WAY more about their public image than a whopping $2.9MM over 10 years. That's less than a drop in the bucket for them.
They saw the writing on the wall based upon the School Boards decision last week and decided to chalk it up by withdrawing the applications to not go thru the public scrutiny, while using this paltry amount to scare folks.
I don't disagree with their tactics from a negotiation standpoint.

The GP Plant that just closed, got shot down a few months ago for ITEP...coincidence???
Yeah. That's not true. GP has never been denied an ITEP request by a local governing body in Louisiana.

there are no links because the media outlets are not reporting on it. I heard it first hand from a VERY reliable source. PLEASE, help me get someone to report on it! I was told that GP Plant requested ITEP 2 months ago and was denied.
There is no link because it never happened. In fact, they were recently APPROVED for more ITEP but will rescind their request because of the plant closure.

It sounds like it was just a poorly run facility that made a product with decreasing demand. No way the US consumes near as much copy paper as it did 20 years ago.

How funny if they shut it all down and say GFY BR

XOM likely spends $2.9 million on community projects in BR every quarter. Legit biting the hand that feeds you because you can't explain how your own budget is spent.
So if I donate my property tax obligation to charity, I'm good, right?

Yeah, not laughing here.
If NBR politicians knew their heads from their asses they would have killed this push. Exxon starts cutting local spending and those areas will be some of the first to feel it because I have a feeling those organizations in NBR don’t have the financial acumen to weather the blow.

If they donate millions which go to schools in the area, then the school board should know better than shite where they eat.

JBE is in a tough spot on ITEP. He knows the donor class wants to continue ITEP and let the good times roll, but his voter base wants it restructured or eliminated.
Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered. For decades and decades, industry has been a hog and no one knew about it. The ones that did know were complicit in it because they were direct or indirect beneficiaries of the program, at the expense of the everyday Joe Taxpayer.
Industry needs to lead the charge to reform the incentive to make it more palatable to Joe Taxpayer and just be pigs. They've been hogs for so long that they don't wanna participate in the new reality.

The problem is, many industrial companies know that they can be hogs in other states.

Considering the state of the state of Louisiana, I don’t think the problem is industry nearly as much as the politicians who write this shite.

Significant blue donor with populist leanings. Appears to be planning for political run based on those populists leanings, if I were a betting man.

Baton Rouge and Louisiana and general need to figure out more consistent and thoughtful ways to bring new type of industry and business. Fortunately it really seems that they’re in a position where they have to take it up the butt on tax rebates in order to keep these energy giants around that keep the economy stable

Not even close. Only Dem I've ever voted for was Hillar Moore. I'm to the right of Alan Seabough, and rock a Trump / Pence bumper sticker on my vehicle.

That could be the case, but without seeing a detailed, side by side site analysis / comparison, that's just speculation. We really don't know if a few years of ITEP would be the difference maker.
I doubt Industry would be willing to share such information, but if they would, it would booster their ITEP argument.

We know AL offered more in incentives to Nucor.
there may be others. Why did Nissan and Mercedes go to MS and AL, respectively?
We know that when the movie credit program was being jacked around, we lost a ton of those projects, and we know now that the program has settled in, that a lot of those projects have come back.
I'm not suggesting that total value of incentives is the single factor in site selection. However, LA is so far behind in so many other metrics, that it really can't afford to also be behind in incentives. No company is taking less incentive money to come to LA and also deal with our pathetic regulatory and tax structure.
