How the Earth Moves
You tube link. You can skip to the 19th minute to get the speed at which earth is moving, but the video also explains Leap years and the calendar. It’s really cool.

On a side note, it definitely seems like astrophysics is the best scientific discipline to pair with hard drugs.

Half of the stuff they find sounds like a conversation between two stoners.

You need to check out quantum physics then

Even the dumbed down explanation of quantum mechanics make me feel really stupid.

I thought about quantum right after I posted that dammit . Reading the Einstein biography by Walter Isaacson right now and you can’t tell me that guy wasn’t high on some good stuff.

It's also not a good subject to ponder too hard on strong hallucinogens - can go down a wormhole so to speak and lose yourself for a period. Well maybe it's not that bad - just do it in the right setting

This sounds like you have some experience with this

I know the guy that invented the polymerase chain reaction which either made the genome project possible or greatly accelerated it credits an acid trip for his idea.

This is why Dechambaw uses those silly arse clubs and takes 10 minutes to hit a shot

I really never thought about it. But it’s a little freaky that the whole solar system is flying around also.

Mine was about time travel, I used a theorem regarding integration of a closed loop in the complex plain to support the idea that you can't go back in time.

The idea was basically how can go back in time if you weren't already there? You would only be able to reach a parallel plain that mimics your own world but never return to an earlier spot on your own "timeline".

Then I started looked at the theorem and wrote a few pages of notes / gibberish, then started wondering about what if your future self had been there and you just didn't know about it. Got confused and started thinking about getting stuck in a time loop and not knowing about it and took me a while to get back into the right mindset.

Those science channel documentaries about space can get you going. Watch them with a laptop so you can research the shot they touch on.

And some of the popular science books about stuff like string theory and the different multiverse theories and stuff is awesome if you don't mind some technical reading

Sometimes I feel like astronomers are just fricking with us and trying to see how much they can get us to believe.

So is the universe also moving?

ETA: besides the expanding part.

There is a lot of empty space out there, even in he areas that have a lot of stuff in it.

yep...

which is why it's hilarious when you see Star Wars and Luke Skywalker is zipping through an asteroid field, and barely missing some of them...
